The only criticism that I have with the Sony HU is that it uses resistive screen tech. But at the price point, an excellent unit overall.

FYI, firmware update was released in April. It closes the nanny screen on its own and detects my phone way better now for CarPlay.

With OS 11.2 (I think) to be released in the fall, iPhone users will be able to use Waze and Google Maps. I have gotten used to using Apple Maps, but will be very excited to be able to use Waze again.

1.) anyone wire the illuminatior wire so it dims when lights are on? If so can you show?

2.) gonna try to do my own install on a back up camera. Any suggestions? I plan on connecting to the reverse light, then run the power all the up to the hu. Do I tie the main and reverse trigger in the same? Do you tap in the reverse light in the rear or try to find it up front?

Installed and drove from San Diego to Moab and back. Definitely made the trip better blasting tunes on Kokopelli Trail! I like the HU and works with steering wheel controls. Only complaints... The Scosche kit from Crutchfield was all plastic, I was expecting metal brackets, but it works. Biggest problem (also my fault for not doing enough research) is that Android Auto doesn't let you search by artist or song when using Google Play Music. Big disappointment. I have to look up artists on my phone to play, which defeats the purpose of having Android Auto. Other than that, it is awesome. Just because Android Auto isn't quite what I expected it to be, I'm already looking forward to upgrading to an Android HU. But that will have to wait until I get a lift...couldn't finish Kokopelli :/

Just curious - have you tried using the Google Assistant voice commands? From what I have seen, the voice command capabilities are identical to what can be done with a Google Home, and I am able to tell my Google Home to play a specific artist or even song by title. I haven't purchased this HU yet otherwise I would test and confirm.

Google Assistant works well for maps, kinda works for texting, is complete crap for using Google Play Music app. I cannot tell it to play a song or artist. She just apologizes to me when I ask. It is not as capable as Google Home. From my experience, it can only complete the requests that can also be done manually.

I am interested in knowing this too. I would like to install one in my 3rd gen and was wondering about other 3rd gen owners experience with this hu.

Yes it is awesome!!! I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a new radio. I like the Android Auto. That's the main reason reason I bought it.

Had an xav200 installed recently. Loving it so far but now I'm thinking I need some better speakers than the stock ones. The Sirius tuner is mounted on the roof.

Unfortunately not. I've had my hands full with other mods and there's a group in town that are experts at headunit installation. It was great to hand the work off to someone and say "call me when it's done".

Anybody installed a backup camera with this setup? I've got an older-style pop-and-lock and was thinking about putting this in:

It would require drilling out a hole, but I'm not sure whether or not the tailgate handle space would be sufficient?

Should be pretty straightforward... it's a single DIN chassis... the face makes it double DIN.

    Pics Monday afternoon.
