after you flash that file your 04B12 ECU becomes a 04B13 ECU?

Did you ask them to do a health check? The health check will display that there is an update for the ECU. They just have to match your current calibration ID and install the software. I'm not sure why the dealership was reluctant. They get paid to do it. When flashing the ecu its impossible to install the wrong software. The techstream checks the software and compares it to the vehicle your going to install it in. If it's not compatible (auto to manual) the techstream will not install.

It's a little scary that some on here are going to try to install the software using OV Tune's equipment. You pick the wrong software to install and Matt's equipment will gladly accommodate. There is the potential to bricking a ECU. Just wait for Matt to release the 105 which will have all the benefits of the new Toyita software plus some added enhancements.

It seems the whole issue is that the 04B12 ECU is listed in the TSB but because the way to diagnose to see if the TSB should be applied by Toyota is that it has to have an AT that shows surging between 40-50 mph while in 4th or 5th gear with the TC locked up. Well that'll be an issue for any tech to say that a MT has surging with the TC locked up so they are saying it doesn't apply to manuals even though the ECU is clearly on the list of affected vehicles. The TSB doesnt say clearly that other things were addressed besides trans settings like valve and ignition timing and fuel maps so no one can say that they need the TSB for those updates which are the ones that needed to get adjusted to make for a better driving truck

Throttle response is vastly improved. Seemed much quicker to rev and I think this is why the truck is much easier to shift smoothly.

It doesn't use anything from Matt. You use the cable from Tactrix and TIS, the file is listed above. Cable is $170 or use one from Ebay for $20-$50, Techstream is free if you download from the right place.
Ya, it should be free from the dealer but they aren't doing it so that's a moot point.
Or yes, wait for Matt to come out with the manual version. He said it's on his list, next month sometime

T33 for B12 and T37 for A70 (2018). There is no way to brick the ECU, you click the wrong file for the ECU it won't load. Toyota software engineers are not dumb.

You're not the only one. I've gone back and forth multiple times from 87 to 89 and my truck is definitely smoother on 89. It's still not perfect at all but it's noticeably better.

Your going through TIS to install the software? Are you paying a subscription?

You aren't technically going through TIS to install it. You need a membership to get access to TIS and through some way or another ToyoVL has got it access. He has provided the CUW file for everyone to use. To install the CUW file you need Techstream on your computer although you don't run TS to install the CUW file, it is an executable file that runs on it's own although it won't run unless TS is installed on the computer. TS apparently installs some drivers or whatever that let's you run the CUW file. I've never run the CUW file myself as I own an AT truck, I'm just piecing together all the relevant info from all the various posts regarding these updates but I have seen from ToyoLV's posts that he has run it and installed the updated ECU ID on his own AT truck for whatever reason he needed to do it.

Actually, the CUW file is not executable. If you have Techstream installed, and double click on the CUW file, Windows recognizes the CUW file as a Techstream file and invokes the Techstream Calibration update wizard that installs the new update to your ECU. I did this same update myself and was smooth as can be with the wizard.

I have an AT, so with that being said, it was a big difference! But just feeling the throttle response etc, I could see how the engine tune changes could probably help you MT guys.

I could see doing all this if your truck is not under warranty but if your still in warranty just take it in. As far as some dealers refusing to do the update because they think it's just for the auto, give it a couple of weeks so the dealer can educate themselves about the update. The update was just released for the MT trucks.
