Mendocino Complex Fire, now the largest ever in Kalifornia. Been looking like late Fall where I live the last couple days, just before a storm comes in with the lack of sunlight. I'm around 2.5 hours away from this fire, which is actually two fires close together, soon to be joined. Worked on my yard some more, have one small area on the property line in a cluster of trees that has never been cleaned up, can use a pitchfork to pick debris up, is so matted. Wish my neighbors would clean their yards, my work may not save my place if theirs goes up in flames and gets in the tree tops, all evergreens in this area, I have maples in my lawn area on the south side of my mobile home.

Hopefully you aren't affected by any of the fires Duane, unfortunate that fires are causing so much destruction out West.

Too bad about Yosemite, but the press makes the fire on the out skirts there as the end of the world if it enters the Park. The sky is falling mentality. Wilderness and Parks supposed to have a policy of let it burn, a natural occuring thing unless structures are threatened.

Just trying to survive the heat and humidity here Mark. Over the last 3 weeks have had a heat indice of 105 to 115.

Relief should begin a little next month. Yea!

Going to the range later today and shoot some .22 lr in my Ruger Mark II bull barrel and my Ruger 1022 LVT. I am sure I will shoot some 9 mm too and maybe some .45 auto.

If I buy/build another AR it will be either .308 or more likely a 6.5 Creedmoor. I have really grown fond of the Creed and my son has a Ruger REPR in 6.5 Creedmoor that does quite well in the 600-800 yard range. It should be good at greater distances but so far 800 yards is the maximum range available.

Keep us informed with more details about your new AR build.

Do you guys buy new ammo early in the month if you dont reload? The local hardware store says they have a quota every month, when that is reached, they cant sell anymore for the month, at least for .22 ammo. I have that size from past years or is it from Xmas back in '69 that I'm rationing? Dont know how here in Kalifornia, how I can transport a weapon legally if I get to the point to where I feel I need a weapon for protection when camping in the boonies. Seems I can only transport if going to a range or hunting, then at least a pistol has certain protocol. I'm fine close to home.

22 LR was hard to get here for a long time but it's readilly available again now at reasonable prices.

    Morning all:
.22 was hard to find here for awhile also, seems like when they got it the first guys that saw it bought it ALL! Later on they limited the amount that you could purchase so they could supply more people, now that the "panic" is over it's available just about anywhere.
Funny how things work, start a rumor that there is going to be a shortage of TP and there won't be a roll of it available anywhere!

:annoyed: Bear was at the pond AGAIN, pipe is pushed over as usual and the pond is way low. :( Looks like I need to go wading again, 4th time this year.

I buy all my ammo online at this point - in bulk. Rarely shoot .22 and I have a bunch left over that's accumulated over the years. When the grandkids get a little older we'll use it up.

The AR I'm building is going to be for longer range shooting - went with an 18" .223 Wylde barrel. I'll list out the components once it's done - maybe this weekend. All of the parts, except for the trigger (a LaRue that's on back-order) are either on my bench or due to arrive by tomorrow. I've got several milspec triggers I can put in while waiting for the LaRue.

What twist on your barrel? I am guessing 1/8 or 1/7.

I have a Geiselle SSA-E trigger in my AR and really like it.

22 lr is readily available here and . 22 mag is also much more available than it was a year or two back.

Man what a workweek. And promises of more to come. I'm seriously thinking about giving notice.

What happened with you folks? Did you have a nice smoothly executed exit strategy or did you just one day say f**k it? Or something in between? I have to admit I'm having a hard time committing to not going back.

1/8 is it! Melonite lined, mid-length gas tube. I have heard a lot of good things about Geissele but also saw a lot of good about the LaRue trigger. At under $100 shipped, I thought I'd give it a try.

I planned, but I'm an egg head accountant and never do anything without analyzing it to death. It helped though that I was not really enjoying my work anymore. It's always a little hard I think to walk away from a good job though and just say enough is enough. No regrets.

I've planned both of mine - first from the Army knowing I was going to go out at 26 years of Service at about the point I hit 22 years so I had a nice time to ramp out. I told my board of trustees last year that I would retire at the end of the fiscal year (June 30) 2020. 2 years left and I'm slowly disengaging and grooming my executive VP to replace me.
