This year's turkey jam was a lot of fun less snow than last year but the turnout was good and we pretty much had the place to ourselves as the snow wheelers didn't show this year.

Truck just started making massive amounts of valve train and engine noise on the freeway I'm still an hour from home..... :(, there's dust all on the intake side of the filter and all over the intake, she's consuming oil like a college girl takes tequila shots. I'm guessing it's sucked out all the oil. Never leaked, never smoked.. I'm topping it up now to try and get home the damage is done I'll have to rip everything apart tmrw morning to get the full butchers bill. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:spending::censored::censored::censored::frusty:

I don't know if it's done for sure.. I have more investigation to do but it doesn't look good.. a few local Guys have had similar issues and their trucks have been fine afterwards. I just don't want to go down the same road as babytaco. He had a hell of time with knocking and oil consumption issues.. anyways I'm at 274000 so like 170k miles

Spent the whole day digging through the engine yesterday, it was like playing the where's Waldo of engine fluids. Drained the rad, no oil. Drained the oil and opened the filter no shavings or coolant, opened the valve cover and fuckin dropped it cheap plastic shit shattered on the ground. May have gotten mad and threw it breaking it more. Anyways no excessive wear on the cams timing chain looks good again no coolant in the head pistons look kinda crudy which is odd cause I servixethe shit out of this engine, might try some additives. Compression test is 160 across the board, a few local yota mechanics have suggested that the 2tre is plagued with the same oil control ring issue that other late model Toyota 4cyl engines have there was even a service campaign for them but the 2tr is not apart of it. It makes sense it fits the symptoms. So for now im putting everything back together and I'll monitor it for the next few months to see how bad the consumption is. I may be looking for viable replacements in the near future, because I can't be on a trip and have this thing decide to fuck up, the next few trips are much further than I've ever travelled before so reliability is key

Hey man i've honestly looked thru this whole thread before and love your truckkk, im having the same problem here and i believe its the valve stem seals i don't know if you want to take my word on it but id say check them cause it might just be a stupid rubber seal

If it were stem seals she'd be smoking like a banshee. Local yota guru and hours of research plus tearing her apart Yesterday seem to confirm its the rings. I got a look at the pistons they're pretty cruddy, which is slow another symptom of this oil ring issue. Search Toyota 4cyl oil consumption it's it's exactly the same, even if they did a service campaign in the future my truck has too many miles to qualify..

will you be putting new rings in the four banger or will you go to the dark side and throw a v6 in her, im not to sure how hard it would be to rebuild the engine compared to just throwing a used v6 in, but if your rebuilding it i'm also going to be doing the same thing so any pointers would be sweet

It's cheaper to drop in a new engine, I have more research to do, but new rings may only be a temp solution as if this is a design issue there's no way to solve it. The corollas etc got new piston assemblies design to mitigate oil consumption, so they didn't even solve the issue they just put a bandaid on it which tells me it's a design problem. I'm going to consilc with some OG yota guys here theyre super knowledgeable and come up with a plan it's very poor timing as I'm getting married next June and have been saving for a house. I'll probably limp the truck along for as long as shell let me and then look to rebuild or replace

fair enough id just keep topping it off till the final day comes, for my sack my trucks just burning a lot of oil or it seems to be cause every time i really get on it, it just puts out black smoke and i have a muffler delete so it doesn't really help. but keep the thread going ive learnt a lot and i was looking for this to do to my truck and your build is right up my ally on what i was trying to achieve

The thread isn't going anywhere, I'm not done yet, I'm headed to the arctic in 2020 so I have till then to make the truck ready... I'll be back for sure
