Bought an 01 Aug 1st, very happy so far.

Have a Toyota before this one so I wanted to stay Toyota, no need to say why on this forum.;)

One thing I want to do is replace the head unit with a double din, when I use the search I only get hits for 2gens. Anyone have a good link to a DIY thread on getting a clean double din kit and wiring?

    Thanks,
    B.

Nice looking '01! Do have the URD fuel upgrades for the SC?

Thanks guys. I had been researching and shopping even when I was in Kuwait.

I do not have the TRD 7th injector or URD mods. When I bought the truck I liked everything about it except the millage, and I didn't care much for the SC after having done a bit of research. But I felt it was a good deal, and at the least I could sell the charger cheap or rebuild it and sell it for more and go back to NA as this is to be a daily driver and the IS is supposed to go under the knife.

I'm liking the charger more and more though haha, so I am going to get it rebuilt (about 100K on it! But runs smooth) and with my IS 300 experience (Toyota before this one) I'm a firm firm believer in URD's techniques of tuning to prevent OBDII learning so I will probably end up with their product.

But for now, I just tool around in vacuum, very occasionally hitting boost and keeping an ear out for ping, though even without ping I'm not comfortable knowing the EGTs are probably abnormally high. It did pass smog on Aug 1st though, so I feel that means the cats, plugs and what not are in good shape.

I lucked out that I bought this from an older gentleman that drove like one rather than a young buck.

Do you guys have SoCal meets sometimes?

    Thanks for the welcome.

Way way back when I bought the IS 300, I joined their boards and I couldn't think of a handle. My IS is a black onyx sport design, so I put BlackSportD for Black Sport Design. My lack of originality haha.

So to keep sign ins simple, I use BlackSportD for the IS boards, here, TTORA, and other misc forums.

Sad news to report. Only having owned the truck for a few days, it was parked in front of a locker in my friend's apartment parking bay. That locker was broken into and my hood being as high as it is interferes with the doors travel so the ass hole thief forces it open denting and grinding it into the hood, so now my hood has a semi circle dent and gash along with two other big scratches.

Very frustrated that people like that get off scott free, they do not deserve to breath.

Sorry to hear about your hood. Is your insurance going to cover it?

    Thanks guys.

I think I have a $1,000 deductible on the insurance, so no go there. But thats the second time a vehicle of mine has been messed up visiting there so my friend feels really bad and is insisting on covering the repair bill even though no I think I'll just live with it.

I meant to get an Evo8 when I came back from overseas the first time but at that time (03) they had 10K+ markups, and somehow I found myself buying an IS which doesn't fit my personality at all but at that time their sales were really low so I got it for the price of a fully loaded Accord, but it still was kind of a mistake. But still its a fun car, and on paper its a 4 door supra (rwd, 2jz-ge, 5speed manual, torsen LSD). If they were sold as Toyotas I'd really be happy, it would have had less trim, less weight, better price, maybe a peppy 4banger (less front end weight) and more after market support. But the lack of after market support (the few parts that are out there have the "L" premium, and we do not have things like plug and play turbo or engine management systems from the mainstream manufactures etc), has been a two way street, though it kinda sucks, it has forced the enthusiast IS crowd to figure stuff out themselves, and it has been a great learning experience on that board learning about making cal files for standalones, physical component modifying of standalone units to make it work with the car, closed loop learning, OBDII, fabricating, suspension tuning etc. For being a "preppy" car there are a lot of guys that have gone so far with DIY (Do it yourself) that their garage could qualify as a mini fab and tuning shop haha.

That AutoX number was funny, I never register just walk in, and that was the number I got randomly.
