Also I have to agree a hurricane would bring an end to mobile! Even where I live flooding is bad, but water, oil, wind, high tides, and big ass waves dont mix!! We had so much salt spray hit our house from Katrina, now imagine what salt spray would be like with oil mixed in

I don't think I am. I didn't have any hard numbers, but a quick Google search brought me to this article, which indicates that the amount of oil spilling out of the pipe in the gulf is roughly .03% of the daily demand in the US. (5,000 barrels per day compared to US consumption of 18,860,000 barrles per day in February 2010.)

I'm not saying that the regulations that will surely follow won't affect gas prices, not to mention potential bans on offshore drilling. But the loss of the oil that's flowing out of this spill won't.

I donated to the fishery. I was under the impression that that was a huge part of the economies out gulf states.

O and i bet most people here own BP stock. If you own any large cap international fund in your IRA/401k ect YOU own BP. If you have a target date retirement fund or just let you broker handle it you most likely own BP.

    just food for thought

5.Not to mention "keeping our boot on the throat" of our biggest allies' biggest company seems kinda stupid. Are we trying to piss one of our last actually worth a shit allies? If the UK pulls outta the global war on terror i imagine a lot of other countries will too. It may not seem like a big deal but they are our longest/best ally. Lets treat them as such, no much hate speeches.

6.Food for thought-BP is the biggest holding in most British mutual funds/pensions- think about it. Politicians are gonna be unfairly tough on BP to win votes. Now obviously BP needs to pay but damaging there reputation/image just to win more votes will not induce BP to be more transparent.

Im talking about the British people not BP here. If you don't care about pissing them off unnecessarily then that's a whole other issue

The figures are wrong if they are using 5,000 barrels a day, that is an old estimate tossed out there to make people feel good about it not being that bad.
BP has captured more then 5,000 barrels a day since they got the last dome on it and it is capturing less then 20% according to the last report I saw.

Frankly I think the slow decrease in gas price is their way of down playing this incident. We all seem to be mad about the environmental impacts of this but consider most of us hunt, fish, hike and ride trails. In short we are outdoors people. We are in the minority I promise you. If gas jacked up to $4+ a gallon then suddenly millions more people would give a damn. This in turn would make the masses demand politicians actually make energy reform. When I first saw this my thought was "we are about to see the giant push for ALL cars and trucks to get 40+ miles per gallon." But I guess those oil giants are smarter than I gave them credit for and nipped that in the bud.

yeh its pretty sad. I went down there with a group of guys after Katrina came through to help clean up. we had a house that we gutted completely so another crew could come in and reconstruct the house... poor guy had to watch us haul his really nice big screen out to the curb along with so many more valuables. he also had a really nice 80 something camaro that was totaled.

My dad and his team developed this chart (he works for NOAA). He also helped make the call on shutting down the fisheries in the area. I'm pretty proud of him is all:D

But seriously. Everything is being done on the government side but the government doesn't have the ability to clean up BP's mess. "BP is trying" the best they can is another story. I think they are making progress but my dad thinks the leaks will be capped or they will have a solution by the end of the week.

The government can't do anything about it! The government doesn't have oil skimmers or booms that can clean the water. BP does and they are doing an OK job. They are in new territory too but they are trying to cover their asses as well.

The only thing the government is doing, the only thing the government can do, is keep track of the damage to (what my dad is doing) the water quality, marine life, etc and make BP right a check when it's all over.

Nope, just the opposite. Think about it...1st) If the prices go up, then there will be hugh backlash on the oil companies for raising prices to cover the cost, and the argument would be "you fucked up, now eat the cost and don't pass it on to us"

2nd) They need to lower the price to keep us buying gas powered cars, and keep people from wanting to buy hybrid, or eletric cars. They are worried about those types of cars, especially eletric, because they don't make any money on them. There are enough people interested in them and own them already, and rising gas prices (especially made worse after a disasterous oil spill) would only encourage intrest in hybrid and eletric cars.
