I just bought my Tacoma 2018 2.7L around 2 weeks. Today I was tried to fit the side board( step board). I'm very supprised when looking at the painting area below the door.. It's too bad. Does any one have the same problem like me? I tried to mark area that effected in green color.
Thanks for reading and sharing your experience.

Supposed to be like that. Protects from rock chips.

The paint is supposed to be that way. It's called orange peel. It's made to resist rock chips better then just regular paint.

But they don’t hold up well to pressure washing at 15 to 18 inches away. This happened when I had only 500 miles on it.

    Welcome!

    Welcome!

I threw some touch up paint on it and it really doesn’t look as bad as the picture shows when in the sunlight. I thought about taping it off, wet sanding it, spray paint with super white from the can, and polishing it like a mother but haven’t gotten around to it ... yet.

I think the touch up pain is better than when you do taping, sanding... because it should be impacted to larger area and you will lost the texture area of original.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I learned my lesson on my previous truck (Chevy Silverado). My pressure washer took the paint off in a huge chunk near the rear wheel well. Stopped using a pressure washer after that.

Was this a car wash pressure washer or your own? I've pressure washed mine at the carwash dozens of times with no issues, including point blank 1 inch away. If this was at home you are probably spraying way too much pressure....

My own. I have a Ryobi 2800 psi washer and have washed all my cars with it .. granted only about 2 times a year just to get the mud n crap from under the fender wells, engine, door jams, and etc. and have never had a problem. I used to to detail cars professionally.

I think all it was was that I hit a soft spot just at the right angle just a little too close and it made a perfect storm of a WTF moment. So from now on, hose only for Pantaco!

Yeah, that’s why I haven’t rushed right out to do it. Like I said, it’s not that bad really and not really noticeable unless you happen to look at it directly. Still disheartening though.

    Workin' on it....
Weird, I have a Landa 3800 psi pressure washer and I keep the wand about 15''-18'' away and use the 40 degree spray tip (white) and probably 40% on the throttle and never had a problem like that.

That’s what I use ... a 40 degree tip and at 15 to 18 inches away and usually 40 to 60% on the throttle. Like I said, I never had this happen before either. Not taking any chances! White though, is a single stage paint without clear coat and that I guess makes it more prone to damage.
