I also learned on white, to wash the crap out of the tires before dressing them otherwise you get little brown spots on the paint that seem to stain even after a few hours and nothing removes them. These stains fade away after a few days though. It’s called “blooming” I think. On my 2015 pearl white charger, these stains just wipe right off. Just FYI, I use a clean rag to wipe it on and use another clean rag to wipe off the excess. Never do I spray it on the tire and never let it drip. I like clean looking tires, not tires that look like they just got spray painted gloss black!

These trucks are painted by robots. Either Toyota was too cheap to program them right where it would get the gun closer to the rockers, or they would have had to add a couple extra robots just for this problem.

Does everyone with this problem have San Antonio trucks?

The problem I think is that they don’t use clear coat on the super white or the quicksand colors. Clear coat shouldn’t even be an after thought, it should be automatic on all vehicles.

The OP is asking about the orange peel texture, not the rock chips.

    It's not orange peel.

Its stone chip guard. It's a textured product that is applied prior to any painting, then the color goes on top.

Various marquees have used this technique on a variety of their models since at least the 90's.

o_O that sounds like some salesman talk. To me it looks exactly like paint sprayed from too far away. You have a source for that?

So you think every Tacoma has this orange peel textured paint in the exact same perfect line and it was a mistake? It's there on purpose my man

Not sure Toyota (or any other marquee) is too worried about what you think about it. 'Nobody' is a pretty broad assumption on your part.

Stuff has been around since at least the 90's on various brands and models of vehicle. If you don't think it's helpful in protecting the metal underneath, go to a junkyard, find something with it on, and try sanding off a patch with some 80 grit.

Yes, a stone will nick the color coat. But it won't expose bare metal. Not a bad thing for those who ever venture out of the mall.

If you want all smooth and shiny, visit your local body shop and get a quote for them to fix it for you.

If I had wanted a pretty truck I would have bought a Dodge. Respectfully I disagree, I doubt Toyota would include an extra coat on the body especially when they don't even use clearcoat on some colors.

It’s on my 2018. It was on my 2001 Tundra. It’s on my dads 2015 OR sport, and on my brothers 2006 SR5. I’d say it’s a feature that Toyota adds for protection and is normal. The one thing I agree though is that they would add this but not clear coat.

Clueless what you are saying, as the stone guard is already included.

    No longer true.

Just because you don't believe something doesn't make it untrue. It just makes you wrong.

    I'm done here. Adios. :hattip:

What?? In my experience this it is practically standard for a truck to have textured paint on the rockers.

That looks like a scratch, not from the pressure washer. You sure you didn't have damage before cleaning and seeing it?

There is no clear coat, aka second stage, on white and quicksand colors. The rock guard is standard.
