Did you manage to bend it back?

I am pretty sure the 3rd time you 'bend it back' with aluminum, you lose all strength. It is just for looks at that point :cookiemonster:

Of course yesterday at noon the MNRF lifted the campfire ban for almost all of Ontario. Except the North Bay, Parry Sound district. :annoyed:

Currently coming up with a creative way to bent it back using truck and couple jacks. It's a 1/4 of aluminum skid, thick and strong.

There is no such thing as "3rd time", the amount of abuse those skids take from me constantly shows that aluminum is a good option for those who appreciates light weight for quick take downs to clean/service truck and not to deal with rust or suffer trying to lift them back. Great mpg and no need to run stiffer coils to keep truck levelled is also a benefit of aluminum.

Yea MPG for you guys is pretty important. I could just never convince myself aluminum will protect my truck on the underside.

Your aluminum skid after 1 season, looks way way way worse than my steel with 3 seasons of wheeling on it. I dont see that aluminum holding up under that much abuse, for extended periods.

Looks are irrelevant, its a skid that is meant to be scrathed and abused. Lets get back to that argument in 2-3 years and see how that skid holds up, then we can judge.

Exactly, I want to see how your holds up! Cuz you put it through its paces each season :cookiemonster:

You get more Brocoma points for how yours looks anyhow. :bananadance:

I agree, after doing aluminum skids on my truck. Thats all ill ever do. They’ve saved me numerous times and were strong enough to hold the truck and not do any damage.
Plus I’ve rebuilt the oil skid and slammed the truck off it amd there is a large gash in it. But it didnt budge. IMO unless your actually abusing your truck in rocks (which I’ve seen no one do in this group) then Aluminum will work fine. Plus my truck is skidded completely for 100 pounds or less

Before I lifted my truck, yes aluminum would have been way better. It was the steel that weight it down, and caused me to grind the steel skids on rocks in the 1st place.

I hear what you guys are saying, I just like that steel armor. Cant help it. :censored:

In my experience I always preferred steel because of its stand-up to abuse. But if you're saying aluminum can hold up just as well then I'm all ears.

Im not saying it will stand up better. It will stand up enough to not do damage though.
Plus for me, i wont speak for others but trails we do don’t require steel. I did black loop which is a hard enough trail for me. I remember hitting my rear bumper, one slider, shock skid/diff twice and oil pan skid but thats from blasting through a mud hole.
That trail is plenty hard for us and i had no issues will Aluminum

Like i said my experience with it has been nice so far so i would recommend it always. I had steel on my jeep amd just the weight alone is enough to go Aluminum

I have built my rig for the long haul, I am going to be wheeling this truck for 20+ years. I am sure in time I will need the steel. Maybe not now, or in the next few years. But I did not want to rebuy skids, so I went with what I wanted in the long term.

Hey @Thyces, I remember you were worried about pumpkin scrathes and how much abuse it can take, here are some pics before re-spraying it. It can take beating.

^The diff pumpkin can take the weight of the vehicle, so it's at least as strong as most frame crossmembers. :p

Steel or aluminum? Who cares, use what you want and if you're happy with it then that's what works for you. Let's move on and when are we wheeling next?
