Printed out the PDF for the TSB and taking it into Valley Hi tomorrow morning. Told them going up the Cajon pass it loses power... hoping it gets done after her telling me it’s a recall that doesn’t apply to my truck.

Somewhere in one of these threads, someone posted a 2010 discussion on what sounded like a less drastic stumble condition in second gens. It was either this thread or the one with "Everyone should get the update" or something like that in the title. Apparently, second gens did have transmission lag/surge as well. My '09 had it, especially when I tried to pass someone going uphill, but it wasn't bad enough for me to do more than cuss at the truck. lol I need to hit the sack, but the link to that convo (not on TW, I think). You might find it because there could be a fix for your truck.

I also had the T-SB 0077-16 done a few days ago. First time I mentioned it, at my 30k they gave me excuses why not to do it. This time at my
40k, I basically told them I wanted it done and that it's covered, strange how they never questioned me or gave me reasons not to do it. They just wanted to know what the truck does, said they had to put that in so that they will cover it
That said, it does drive a lot better, more zippy and way less shifting on hwy, not that any of it bothered me before, but with the nice results, I'm glad it's done, did not realize what I was missing :Dhighly recommend!!!

I've had 4 2nd gens, and they all did this to a degree. That's why I brought it up. Again- I don't mean to say this isn't a problem. I just test drove a 3rd gen off the lot last week and I noticed some... weird stuff.

But if someone is coming from literally "any other vehicle", getting used to a Tacoma trans is gonna take some getting used to. It's not an "SUV". It's not a "car". And it's not a Ford F-150.

Don't get me wrong. I've been driving Tacoma's since 1995. I'm a fan (obviously). And Toyota "corporate" (and engineers) aren't idiots. I'm with you guys. Just trying to figure this out.

TSB-0077-16 is old. My paperwork seems to show that the dealership gave me that too, even after specifically requesting TSB-0062-18

I updated mine myself this morning using a tactrix cable. Super easy, maybe 5 minutes tops. I went from 04B03 to 04B04. Truck started right up after. Haven't driven it yet. Need to do that still.

Code EG1810 is for TSB 0058-18 and Code EG1811 is for TSB 0062-18. Sometimes the dealer will note the OP Code and not the TSB number.

I went to the dealer to get the T-SB 0062-18 done today, but nothing was completed. I handed them a paper copy and they could find it on their computer, but when they hooked the scan tool/programmer up and it couldn't find the update. Neither could the other two scanners they tried. They think it is the tool's link to the software not updating. They are going to have the service manager look into it on Monday and get back with me.

I had to laugh a bit when the tech said he thought he felt the issue and then his "Oh crap, I didn't feel that!" when I took him for a ride and it fell hard on it's face while taking off hard throttle from a stop. He told me not to do it again because it wasn't safe since we could be rear ended. Really, ya think?!

Update: I went to a second dealer with 38K miles and they also said I need to approve a $125 diagnostic fee, if the problem is not the TSB. The mechanic Flashed the new update for TSB-0058-18, so no fee!

I only drove local with the update and I notice a nice linear acceleration and linear-paced transmission shifting. ECT holds gears much longer than the standard mode... I roll with the ECT always-on Mod and it is great now. I look forward to trying the update on the highway. I will report back after 500 miles of highway commuting next week.

It is a really simple story.

" I was just out in the mountains on a vacation, it is acting funny when I was accelerating. I then googled the symptom and discovered there is a TSB for this. Please fix."

Never thought a little update could make the truck so much better. No more WOT that makes the truck veer off the road, smooth linear curve with good pedal response.

So the the dealer complained that I have 1in bigger tire and that’s the cause of all the transmission issues but claimed they did the update anyway! Now I don’t trust them much and all I see is an opt code on the ticket dose this code tell me what update they did?

I also just had update performed (for both TSB 0062-18 and 0058-18) but from what I understand they flash the same programming. Limited experience but from the first 3-4 in town drives it is MUCH improved in shift feel. More low end for stop and go. Shifting seems a bit smoother. I have to get out of the habit of automatically shifting into “S” because I have used a SSP for the last 1.5 years. I have to say that I am not sure I will need at from here on out. Still wish there was more pedal response but perhaps a pedal commander or other such item will help. I will give this 500 miles and then update again. On average I get shitty mileage and alway have (13.4mpg in town, 15.2mpg average based on “Fuelly” logs for 2 years. Best mileage ever listed as 19.4mpg so this thing is a gas dog! The mileage is worse than my 2002 4-Runner. Anyway, I had given up on shitty transmission until now, this update seems to have made a noticeable (but not perfect) improvement in driving feel!

    Got it done, no hassle.

Not seeing a night and day difference - but it isn't trying to kill me when I pull out into traffic, so that's a plus.

Well, took a trip to the Leathermans store to use my friends and family pass today. It’s located up by PDX in Portland. Even on a Saturday morning there was stop and go traffic in parts... hate that city, but got a new multi tool and headlamp for cheap! Haha

Anyways, below is what my screen said once there:

    45A09905-33A7-462C-8694-261976F4D85C.jpg
I know it’s only a few miles, but still pretty solid for some hills and traffic.

My way back I got 24.5 and I was way harder on it (also way more traffic..). Shifting is very smooth once the truck is warmed up. Truck now will downshift and hold that gear going up a hill. No more shifting up midway up a hill as soon as it sniffs a slight decrease in the climb... This update feels like it’s a mild ECT button. Which is good! Didn’t notice any weird engine braking like yesterday either.
