Sorry if I hurt your feelings... But it's true. Maybe if I lived somewhere flat with lots of straight roads it might not be an issue but I've got 2500ft and higher passes just to get out of the valley I live in. Mountain driving and twisting roads are horrid. The thing hunts for gears constantly. That's why I got the MT instead.

Wrong again. Auto transmission works just great. Please stop spreading propaganda to justify you chosing to play with the stick.

What year/models ? I would think the 5.7 wins easily.

having owned both trucks I disagree. It's the clunkiest automatic I've ever driven. If your definition of "working great" is constantly hunting for gears even when driving down the freeway at 70mph then you've driven some really crappy vehicles to compare it to.

Transmission works just fine in my truck. Just as intended by Toyota. Your issues with the auto sounds like user error, but glad you were able to find one that you enjoy.

You can youtube my name to see the crappie vehicles I have driven. :turtleride:

I live in the hills and my transmission is far from clunky. One of the smoothest AT I've driven.
Mine doesn't hunt for gears it simply down shifts to maintain RPM's like most AT. I'll put up with a few extra downshifts if it keeps me averaging over 20 MPG's.

Which TSB are we all referring to in this thread, and would it apply to my early '18 TRD OR AT?

He’s not wrong. The transmission (especially before the TSB) is crap.

Ewwwww. Please don't mix the Pontiac Judge with Ford products. It's just not right.

There’s a thread with a guy that has the exact same truck as you and he had to weld on traction bars because it had so much power that it had bad axle wrap and wheel hop he was having trouble pulling away from the lights it had so much power ? , I questioned it because mine is a dog like yours.

I find the power in this truck completely adequate and actually quite impressive went I floor it from 30+. If I were to pick on the power it would be from stop. It’s like the truck has to think for a second before it gets going. But I noted this on my test drive and knew it wouldn’t be a big issue for me.

no brainer, just sell the Tacoma and use your Chevy provided work truck for everything, plus gas and registration, insurance are free and no pesky monthly payments.

2000’ish dodge Dakota could be had in a manual with the 5.9L

I think they even had an SRT version.
