Regret buying sport?

Hey guys,

I'm having a slight dilemma, I'm in the market for a new Taco but am having an extremely tough time finding a DCSB OR in Cement or Magnetic Gray with the tech and premium package. It seems that I can find exactly what I want in the Sport only.

I was wondering if those that settled for a sport, regret doing so? A little a bit about myself, I live in the northeast where there is plenty of snow, and enjoy doing outdoor activities, not too sure about extreme offroading though, I currently have a JKU and haven't offroaded much in the past 3 years of ownership. I find it hard to justify spending the same exact amount of money on a sport when the offroad has actual functionality for the same price.

tldr: Not sure which Taco to get, want premium but can only find it in the sport. Outdoor activities enjoyed, kayaking, camping etc and take lots of road trips. OR or Sport?

Yeah, I figure I can't go wrong with either. It's a lot of money for me, so I don't want to make the wrong decision.

Wait for the OR. What’s the rush? You’ll find what you are looking for if you are patient.

 

You can do everything in a Sport that you can in an OR with the proper driver skill.

 

If you already worry about regretting your decision and want the utility of an OR at the same price as the sport, just order what you want and wait for it. The sport is a great and capable truck, but if you want the OR and can wait for a few months you will probably be happier.

 

Not a 3rd gen but my sport is on the beach nearly every weekend in deep, soft, sand. Obviously snow in the winter and mild off road other times when I have to reach a fishing spot or just for fun. I use 4 LO in the sand but don't think I've ever needed it. Def. never needed the rear locker. I keep TRAX with me in case I get stuck.

 

No regrets. I test drove both and preferred the Sport. Aesthetically better of course with the color keyed flares, but suspension was ultimately the deciding factor.

False. There are no substitutes for a Locker.

 

Get the OR, do not settle. Get the truck you want. Start looking for trucks out of state if need be.

 

My sport goes off road and on the beach with me weekly. I hated the black fender flares. No need for a locker as I’m never going to be rock crawling.

 

Lockers are not exclusive to rocks. If you don’t need one then fine but I’ve used mine plenty of times on shit trails.

 

I have an OR but wonder why people on this forum seem to think a sport is for street use only. I think Toyotas in general are extremely capable of most off roading. I do understand that a locker is beneficial to more extreme off roading, but the majority of people should be fine with any Tacoma 4×4. Just my boring opinion.

I bought a Sport, I like the color matched fender flares. But the main reason I did was the manual transmission. The only way to get a manual in an access cab. I would have jumped on an OR if I could get the manual, the locker would have been nice.

 

I never even thought of getting an OR. I like the looks of the Sport better, and I haven’t found a situation in 20 years where a locker has been a must have. Granted, I live in Ohio & not Moab. Is there times where a locker would have been nice? For Sure. But, it’s all your choice guy! You honestly can’t go wrong with either.
