That trailer is going to toss a Tacoma all over the road. You have to factor in driving dynamics as well.

I used a to pull a Starcraft AR-ONE 14RB with my 2016 Tacoma and it felt like the trailer was pushing and pulling the truck all over the place on “sporty” roads (which is where I spend most of my time).

The trailer that the OP is asking about is almost twice the size.

Both the 4.0 and the 3.5 would really be working to haul this trailer.

They would be, but the cult of the 4.0 seems to think it had 300+ torque.

I pulled a light (tahoe brand) 19' er with my 07 4.0 a few times a summer for 5 yrs and thought it was close to maxed out in terms of power and the other factors mentioned . Not sure about the 3.5 and the extra 4'. My 2 cents. Suggest trying it out, goto a few gas stations, stop at some stop lights. Pull out onto the freeway. Put time into adjusting the trailer brakes.

Not seeing many facts in your response.

Take some time and educate yourself on SAE J2807 before spewing nonsense about not wanting to tow this trailer with a Tundra.

Dynamics are factored into the tow rating. See the reduced tow ratings on a 2011 Sequoia over the 2010 model year after Toyota became J2807 compliant and sway was an issue with the short wheelbase.

    I tow a lot.

I tow campers, horse trailers, and obviously parts for my business.

Gut feel is important. You need to be able to tell when a truck is working too hard.

I’m not saying I “wouldn’t” tow that trailer with my Tundra, but I’m saying that I like to have a LOT more truck than I need.

And I’m definitely saying that the Tacoma isn’t enough truck for that trailer. I don’t care what your SAE spec says.

Just a general comment about the trailer: If it’s just you and your girl, you can get by with a much smaller camper. Anything from 14’ to 16’ is perfect for two people, and your truck can totally haul a camper in that size range.

When you have kids, then you can worry about a bigger camper.

Good for you, pumping up the full size truck industry and the internet perception that you need a 3/4 or 1-ton truck to pull 6500lbs when half tons are rated to pull nearly double that now. Last I checked the Society of Automotive Engineers is a pretty smart group of people too....

Check out the Coachmen Apex Nano. I've seen a few Tacos pull the 193BHS easily. It's a good camper with great reviews. Definitely easier than that monster in the first post.

    True.
The 3.5 pulls faster when moving according to Gauntlet test because of 18% more hp.
I feel it pulls better than my 2nd gen I had did.
I pull 5000 no problem, flat terrain. Not moving at high speeds like some people like to show off do.
Trailer has brakes, can set it to drag the taco there that good.
No sway, airlift suspension - no sag.

I’m just offering my opinion based on personal experience. Not really sure why you’re so pumped up about it.

not even close to with ease, but slightly more efficiently, yes. That's beside the point though, this is not a 4.0 vs 3.6 discussion.

I'd avoid towing a trailer like that with a Tacoma. Can it, on paper. If you have to ask, you shouldn't. No offense meant .

Because I get annoyed when people present opinions as incorrect facts.

 Trailer brakes very seldom fail without warning on today’s brake controllers. Well maintained trailer brakes are extremely reliable to boot

I don't get the hate on the 3.5L... the engine is a champ when you open it up a bit. That being said I agree with most of the concerns here and while the tacoma might technically be able to pull the trailer, I will be looking for something much more manageable.

The 3.5 tows fine. I've owned 2 4.0 and one 3.5 and towed with all of them. They're comparable.

    I'll validate this opinion.

Can, should, are two very different things in this topic. And that's not exclusive to applying to the trucks ability

I tow my 2011 Cruiser RV Fun Finder x 210WBS with my Taco. Dry weight is 3,695#’s I do have a break controller, weight distribution and anti-sway. I don’t have a problem towing it here in Florida.
