Just had my 2018 SR5 re-flashed on Friday. Soooo much better! If you haven't done this yet, do it -- truly a noticeable difference. One comment tho -- my service writer looked at me like I was from another planet when I asked for this re-flash at my 5000 mile service. He said the techs would have to test drive to see if a problem existed. I politely explained that they could test drive all they wanted to but this is a Toyota factory warranty service and since I'm the customer and this is a new truck, just do it please. After having lunch the service writer called and said I was all ready to go. No more BS or questioning, just a much better driving truck. My service writer even had a big smile for me.

    Welcome!

Hmm I’d give your auto the TSB and a few more months. Then maybe go from there. I learned on a 1st gen manual Tacoma when I was 7-8. Kept it up until a few months ago. I would much prefer a manual, but I need that 6ft bed. Plus, future mrs needs an auto ha

As much as I like Beaverton Toyota I’d buy else where. Their no negotiation prices are terrible. They were only offering 1,700 off a 2017 SR5 in December 2017. I went to Eugene and got a fresh off the truck 2018 SR5 for 4,000 flat off msrp. That was Pretty much the first week the 2018s hit around here, too.

I did 120 miles today. Headed down to Jefferson to see the parents and get bow hunting stuff ready. Way down is mainly i5 (49miles) and got the following:

    854AD24D-741F-48C4-8940-2A13E22662D4.jpg

Way back up I took almost all back roads. Traffic was shit starting from Jefferson up. Maybe did 5 miles on i5 and got 24mpg flat. That was with stopping for tractors and having to pass on short roads by St. Paul. So about the same if not better than pre TSB.

It's not supposed to be over the factory sticker but it does have to be conspicuous to someone looking to reference the factory sticker. Basically, don't go sticking it on the fender across the engine bay and keep it close and it's ok. They're just required by federal regulation to put a sticker on the vehicle stating there's been a deviation from the originally approved configuration that went through emissions testing - it's how you know a flash actually updated fuel mappings and the like.

None, finally back in a Taco
This is something common to the posts I started on my three social media groups. Seems like this is relatively new, most dealers aren’t prepared and they haven’t ordered the stickers. I would go back and have them do it though, may help with resale to savvy Taco owners if nothing else.

I might be ahead of the curve because I was a smog tech in California and they've been doing this for decades but it was my understanding it's also an EPA requirement that isn't really enforced. When Toyota re-maps the truck they have to get approval for the new tune and it means the baseline for the truck (the number on the emissions sticker) is no longer valid once that update has been applied. Any dealer not adding the sticker could get dinged but, at the same time, I've never seen this flagged outside a smog tech flagging a clearly (visually) modified system. Nobody would ever be able to see an updated ECU so there's no way anyone could tell without a scan tool.

So if I just stick it right next to the other I’m good?

I would start by finding out exactly what the TSB usually entails and start a complaint at your dealerships service dept about the issue, not exactly sure if they must duplicate the problem, before updating you ECM, but its a start

Yeah that'll be fine and it's what we did 99% of the time when I worked for Chrysler and Ford. Our stickers were a lot smaller though haha.

Just got mine done Saturday, noticed a lot changes, more torque everywhere shifting is vastly improved, no more issues on hill climbs, it downshifts when braking nice and smooth. Throttle response is better mpg is up, very happy with it.

Man 25mpg... Sea level must be great! I would have to park the truck on-top of a mountain, wait for heavy winds and then set it on fire because there is no way i would get 25mpg.

Haha my tank average won’t be close to that though. Traffic and hills kill it. I hunt at about 4,500-7,000 feet on the east side of the state so I’m curious to see how the update handles elevation. I’ll find out in less than a few weeks :bananadance:

Update: Just got my truck back from getting the TSB done. It took them roughly 40min from the time they took the key till the time they handed it back. I have been impressed with this truck since the day I got it back in April of this year. I have had zero complaints and could not understand the people on this forum complaining so much about an amazing truck. I must humbly apologize to those who have been complaining about shifting patterns of this truck because since the 20 mile drive back home on highway, city streets, and interstate; THIS IS A WHOLE NEW TRUCK! I honestly thought people were exaggerating about this fix but it almost feels as though I'm driving without an E-Brake on now. I have owned a few cars in my day from a fixed up chevy truck to a 3 series bmw and I must say this is one of the most noticeable mods I have done in a long time. It shifts much smoother now, almost zero dead pedal feeling, and no more gear hunting going up hills. For anyone being hesitant on getting this done, please do yourself a favor and find the closest dealer near you! LOL

I looked under my hood and they didn't add an updated sticker. I will now assume that they didn't actually do it. I emailed my adviser last week but he hasn't responded yet.
