Works great. Easy to clean up ,quiet. Like a small fan... ( which it has). I only used 2 1/4 racks for 2 1/2 pounds of meat. I have 5 racks for the unit.

 

If u do more than meat it’s great because if adj Temp.

 

Don't limit yourself if you can afford the extra space. I'll be doing more through the winter or till the harvests change and start getting lesser quality produce. I have 5 trays and there are times I wished I had 12 so I can do more so I can put more up. I should be doing peaches and apricots now so we have them more through the year and not just the season.

 

I’m the only one that likes it so 5 is plenty. You can only eat so much jerky. I split the ingredients as it’s for 5 pounds and I have enough to do 8 batches from the kit. Last me a year. Lol

 

I think you can buy additional trays for some models..

 

I can for mine but just haven't. Maybe this year I'll spring for a bigger one. I can get used trays but don't trust them because they are plastic and get brittle over time plus I'd have to go through another learning curve for longer drying times. It would be easier to just get a unit built for the extra volume and have less to think about.

 

Doing my usual Weekend Field Day of my place , can't stand it being dirty !!!

 

I couldn’t see spending the extra 80 bucks for me.
If you do a lot as far as amount then it would be better..

 

same here! wife cleans every friday and certain things i do to help. she keeps a clean fort.

 

I’m doing slim Jim size. 8 hrs down. Will need to start testing every 30 min. (Aka eat a piece).
I don’t like it rock hard and snappy. I like it to tear..

 

You get it just "right"... and you can send a "care package" to my addy...

I think anyone with more trays would take longer. I maybe wrong..

 

The larger units tend to have more fan to move the air better.

My last batch was too dry. This one I want with a little "flex" to it. I keep it in the freezer till the morning put it in my lunch box so it doesn't get funky. When I was a kid we just kept it in a pillow case on a hook on the wall, but we used more salt. I ever-so-lightly salted this batch. I'll eat 4 or 5 pieces a day over the course of the day at work.

 

I use an Excalibur 5 tray machine for dehydration. works great it has a timer and temperature adjustment. the trays are square. this makes it easy for rotation. they can be rotated a quarter turn vs other machines you can only rotate half turns.

 

Mine can’t rotate. It has some super duper flow thing so it doesn’t need it.

 

Mines round.

 

Square I don't have to rotate often. but if spread the jerky to thick I can rotate closer to the fan
