Still needs amp. Speakers are grossly underpowered, your giving up some good sound

 

Wow, this is a massively large pain in the ass due to the “universal mounts” from crutchfield. Once I figured out the fronts, not that bad. But now, how in the actual fuck are these rears supposed to mount? This isn’t even remotely close to the OP’s “just snap these off” picture. Wondering if crutchfield sent me the wrong part.

No, that's right.

They're just plastic. Just snip them off with dykes or shears or whatever. It doesn't have to be pretty or perfect, just so the speaker fits flush.

Edit: ignore the wires in the picture. I hadn't routed them through the little opening in the speaker adaptor yet.

Edit 2: I'm sorry, those do look like the wrong mounts. I was only looking at the tabs. Those look like adaptors to put a round speaker in a 6x9 spot. Sorry

 

Crutchfield sent you the set for the fronts, not the back. That's an adapter for a 6.5/6.75 to 6x9.

They did the same thing to me, call them and give them the product code on the bag and they'll send out the right set.

They’re sending the correct mounting brackets now. Thanks again guys! The front speakers sound great for the time being. I’m getting super crunk.

I did the Subaru tweeter mod a couple of weeks ago and was frankly underwhelmed. I then an did additional mod- I got hearing aids. Come to find out, my hearing had deteriorated and I had lost a portion of my high frequency sensitivity. Now the tweeters (and everything) sounds great! Plan to do the fronts, rears, and Noico soon!

People- take care of your hearing. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

@destin_meeks - finally got around to installing the kicker key amplifier full kicker CS setup and kicker subie tweeter). Interestingly when I went to run the auto EQ set up with the tweeters unhooked the front door speakers no longer work. In order to get by for the night I hooked the tweeters up and ran the auto EQ anyhow and it worked and it sounds pretty good. Given the amp is not powering the tweeters how do you think I should proceed forward from this point? Do I just make the termination point for the Tweeter wire or given it ran successfully just leave it how it is?

 

Wait... if you u hooked the tweeters and got no sound, that means the amp is in fact powering them. I don’t remember what your setup was as I’m typing this but I must have originally misunderstood the scenario.

Anywho,

If the tweeter gets unplugged and you lose your door speaker, then the Key is running both (which is good, in my book)

No further action should be required

 

Why would you unplug the tweeters and try to set up the key that way?

 

It’s been a month or so, and my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I feel like we discussed possibly running new wires to the doors and leaving the tweeters powered by the radio? That’s the only reason I can think of, but who really knows.

Either way, it’s working properly and sounds good!

 

So I'm going to be installing an Alpine ILX-107 within the week. I thought, "I'll be removing the A pillar cover to run the mic wire up there, may as well do the tweeter upgrade." But it then occurred to me that maybe I should test out the stock tweeters first, to see if it sounds okay. Has anyone done the upgrades (Including the door speakers, which I'm also considering) after upgrading the head unit? Just wondering if the new head unit will bring some life into the stock speakers, or how they compare to the Kickers after a new HU is installed. Thanks!

 

Still garbage. You get a better eq with a new radio so no more limitations of just bass/mid/treble, but stock speakers just aren’t good. Plus your new radio will blow them fairly quick at higher volumes

 

For more clarity on the above, my setup:
17 Pro w/ Entune
Dash Tweeter - upgraded to Subaru Kicker Tweeter
Front doors - upgraded to Kicker CS 6x9s
Rear doors - upgraded to Kicker 6.75s
Kicker Key180.4 Component amp
Used the Metra harness to pipe everything to the amp under passenger seat as I have the Kicker Hideaway for under the driver seat but not yet installed. Also sound deadened all 4 doors very heavily.

When I went to run the auto setup on the key, I unplugged the dash tweeters as the Metra harness only had provisions for the 4 door channels (or so I thought). When you unplug the dash tweeters, you lose power to the front doors as well. So, at this point it seems that the front channel powers both the dash tweeter and the doors.

The auto setup worked fine and the sou d is great and full as compared to factory but I'm not the biggest audiophile. For a relatively cheap upgrade the system sounds better than most cars I have been in that have not undergone lots of changes. For what it's worth, it also has a lot more thump, so much so I really dont think i need to install the hideaway - debating on its efficacy at the moment.

The only question I still have is given the Tweeter and front door speaker are apparently on the same line does that mean 45 watt output is being split 22.5 to the Tweeter and 22.5 to the door or is it 45 to both? I'm not not electrical engineer.
