I have an 01 Tacoma with power locks, but no keyless entry...

I asked the parts guy at my stealership if they could look up the part number for the keyless entry system, but he told me that if the truck didnt come with it installed that I cant add it...

To me this smells like BS, but I was wondering if anyone can verify this or not...

so can I install the factory keyless entry system, or even the VIP3000?

Keyless entry was a factory option that wasn't offered until 2003. There was no accessory version that could be added on as of 2001. My guess is this is why he told you it can't be added on after-factory.

The factory keyless system was basically the TVIP alarm 'brain' minus the status indicator lamp and glass breakage sensor.

If you add an appropriate TVIP alarm system, you'll also get keyless entry functions.

If all you want is keyless entry functionality, it may be more economical to simply install an aftermarket setup.

so is it possible to add the TVIP alarm system?

is this system installed with existing factory wiring, or do I have to tap into a bunch of wire like any other after market alarm system...

I'd like a factory keyless entry/alarm system that was made to go on the car!

Yes - the TVIP RS3XXX kit can be added on. A complete new kit includes the wiring harness required to plug everything into your stock wiring.

The RS3200 was available in the 2001 model year. I don't know if you can still get new RS3000 kits.

do you know the difference between the rs3000 and the rs3200 kit I would assume the 3200 kit would be better but I cant imagine why it would be

also if the rs3200 kit was offered for the 2001 model year then I'll just go with that...

I just want the alarm system that was offered as a factory option for my car...and not have to wire it all up funky like an aftermarket system that makes you splice into the ignition wire and so on and so forth!

??? I used to have a 2000 TRD SR5 4X4 extended cab; I bought it new. I had the factory keyless entry.

I'm actually in the process trying to get all the parts together for my 2002 Tacoma to install the oem keyless entry/alarm. I have the Toyota OEM TVIP RS3200 Install in PDF format that I can email so you can look over the install. Its all plug in play, pretty simple. PM me for it.

There are 2 major things you need to get.

    V3 Wire Harness
    TVIP brain

    Optional
    Status Monitor
    Piezo Buzzer

I am in the process of locating a V3 wire harness. Apparently Toyota does not make this wire harness. I am still trying to locate one. You can still get the V3 Base Kit Toyota Part number 08585-33830 through the dealer. This is the "TVIP Brain".

Part number 08586-04810 is the main "kit" which includes the following:
Wire Harness (trying to locate this one separately now)
    Status Monitor
    Piezo Buzzer
    Butyl Tape Pad
    Extra Large Wire Tie

This "kit" Toyota no longer manufacturers. But you can get the Status Montor and Piezo Buzzer separately. The thing is I cannot get the wire harness. This is the hard thing to get a hold of. I am trying to find out the individual part number for the V3 wire harness. If you can locate one I would like to know it.

PM me for more info as I am going to install this once I locate the harness.

The 2001-2002 Tacoma's have the RS3200 Alarm and the 2003+ Tacoma's come with the "RS3200 Plus" which come with keyless entry and the TVIP Brain.

What about aftermarket? I think it'll be cheaper.

There was no 'factory keyless entry' in the 2000 model year. If you had keyless entry it was because your 2000 had the accessory TVIP alarm or an aftermarket unit installed at the point of sale.

Yes it will be cheaper. But that requires tapping into the existing oem wire harness which can lead to future electrical problems in the future.

The plug in play oem solution is the way to go IMO>

Once I successfully install the system I will let everyone know. But like I said that V3 Wire Harness is difficult to get a hold of. I was on vacation the past week so I have not looked for it. If I cannot get it at the dealer I will try the local junk yards to see if I can get it that way.

I have an 01 with keyless entry and an alarm. Idk if it is a toyota system though. the battery in the remote was dead when I bought the truck and I think it's unnecessary anyways so I just have never bothered replacing it.

great info chmura...this is exactly what I wanted to know...

like you said also I dont want to tap into the existing wiring harness...I acctually just removed a viper alarm system that was tapped into and I am still going to have to go back and solder some wires back togethor eventually...

keep me/us posted on your findings for the harness, I want to install this system asap mainly for the keyless entry but the alarm system is also a plus!

hey chmura, I wanted to ask you about this since you seem to have the insight...

can I still order the whole "kit" that comes with the wiring harness, or are these not available too...

i did a quick search and found this website that has the alarm systems for sale...

other question is it looks like their are multiple part numbers for different years, it looks like the part number for the kit is for the 02 while the 01 is 08586-3D841

just wanted to clarify for anyone else interested in the topic...

To my understanding the 01 and 02 should be the same since the 03+ Tacoma's came with the RS3200+ Alarms. I did a quick search of 08586-3D841 and I found the install manual for your 2001 and you are correct they have a different part number listed. You can call the dealership and ask if they have the 2001 Tacoma TVIP V3 RS3000 V3 Base Kit (08585-00921). Then all you need to do is track down the wire harness.

The link that you posted with the oem install manual from Toyota the only thing you can order from Toyota is the V3 Base Kit (08585-33830). This is the TVIP brain from what I got reading the install manual. Its about $150 for this.

The kit that includes the wire harness (08586-04810) is discontinued and no longer for sale. You can order the Status Monitor separately from Toyota, I have not checked if you can order the Pizeo Buzzer separately yet. I am assuming you should be able to.

The website you found can you get the wire harness from them?

Let me know what you find as I am in the same boat as you!

just called that website, no luck...they said sorry discontinued by toyota...

ive been reading and I found a thread about the same problem back in 2006...

it looks like our best bet is to find a wiring diagram and just buy the connectors and create our own harness...but I was reading that the guys from '06 were looking into that and couldnt find the wiring diagrams to do this...

if you find the wiring diagram, or rather a harness, could you please pm me so I can get togethor with you and make my own if needs be...I noticed were both in OC so it wouldnt be too hard!

btw we should have a meetup some time!
