I wonder how the pricing will really shake out MSRP vs the price you actually pay. Currently you can walk into a Ford dealership and get ~10k off an F-150 MSRP without much haggling. Ford always has a ton of pricing incentives and Toyota doesn’t. Could be interesting to seeing you could get a comparable Ranger for much less than a Tacoma.

On the Colorado there is about 2-4k room to move depending on the model. I would guess it’s the same on the Ranger. The production cost on a mid sized truck is actually right around the cost of the full size after you consider the economy of scale.

Where Ford will win big up here is on financing. A Tacoma here is always around 5% to finance over 3-5 years. A Ford is usually either interest free or 0.9% over the same period. On a 40k truck that’s a big difference.

On paper this is great, under $30000 for STX Supercab with FX4 package. We'll have to see how available this combo will be. It's possible dealers will stock mostly the higher trim levels for their higher margins. This is especially true for Canada where the volume for midsize trucks is much lower.

I just read a article about the 2.3 Ecoboost engine that will be in the Ranger which is based off the RS. Hopefully it holds together better than the RS version LOL. If it proves reliable & the Raptor version sold in the States it will be good bye Tacoma.

Raptor confirmed for states. The 2.3 was in other platforms without issue, Mustang, the problem with the RS version was the misuse of gaskets between the two engines, the RS version needed additional coolant passages and the mustang didn't. Apparently ford was installing the wrong gaskets for the same engine (confirmed by RS owners by part number) from the factory causing the failure on some RS's.

Good to know thank you. Now I might actually find out if the Tacoma lives up to its great resale value in the next year or so LOL.

I'm sure it'll be fine. I still think it looks the best of the bunch. Though I would gladly take a mini raptor ranger.

Interesting, failures attributed to sloppy build quality at Ford rather than a design problem with the 2.3L

Toyota does the same thing with trucks on the lot, but the fact that it's an option for the ranger compared to the "we want everybody in a TRD" Toyota thinking is awesome.

Okay, I will take that challenge. My F150 starter has two bolts and takes about 10 minutes to swap. I could probably cut the time in half if I put down my beer. Vehicle brand loyalty means nothing anymore. Every manufacturer builds a few bad apples in the bunch. The Japanese built Toyotas have been much better than my U.S. built Toyotas.

Why do you swap out starters so often?

    Sounded very implied.

My 93 fox body needed one every two months.... but that was because of over heating it due to long tube headers. Thank goodness for auto zones no hassle exchange policy.

Again, if it's only a "paper config" that you have to special order at the dealer (because no one stocks it), then you may not get a good deal on it. Dealers often don't discount trucks unless it's sitting on the lot and costing them interest. Only time will tell.

Ford will actually build trucks to order though, where Toyota only fulfills orders as they are built from a predetermined schedule at that plant. I know this because that’s how all the custom company leases are filled and why the Tacoma is not offered with any options on the spec sheet for those leases. If people order the trim you mentioned from Ford, they will get what they want.

You can have any Tacoma you want as long as it's a v6 TRD double cab 4wd.

I remember seeing a picture of one of the very first Rose Bowls and all the cars were the same and black. It must have been a real bitch to find your car after the game was over.
