Yep—drove them both. Sport was the better ride ON road IMHO. couldn’t really do any off road testing for the test drives. In the end, had to be honest with myself about where I would likely do most of my driving (99% on pavement/gravel) And this early in the game (just got my 18 Sport/Access Cab 5 months ago) I’m too nervous about trashing it off road anyway!

@shakerhood Where I live {texas) it is an excepted fact that Insurance is higher for 4WD vehicles, and I am sure some research on your part will show porer MPG.
call your Insurance representative tomorrow, you will see.

If they both cost $35K for example then I just cannot see there being much difference, if anything with a more expensive hood I could see the Sport costing a couple bucks more. I have plugged a Sport and an Off Road in KBB for trade in values and the Off Road ends up being worth about $900 more. Toyota has both the Sport and Off Road in like trim rated at 18 City and 22 Highway

I have a cement or, I live in socal and to be completely honest I've only seen maybe 4 other cements while driving. I rarely see quicksand too, I always see a bunch of white ones and surprisingly quite a few of the red ones

Look in Colorado Springs for the truck you want, Liberty Toyota has a massive selection
I bought my OR there and drove it back to Cali

@shakerhood I am talking about actual ownership expense. because of different insurance cost, from state to state, hear it varies by county.
KBB dose not factor in MPG or Maintenance over a given time frame.

A 4X4 Sport and 4X4 OR are commensurate in insurance costs, as well as maintenance...

@TailHook Perhaps I misunderstood, I was thinking of the Sport as the 2WD versus the 4x4 OR

That would definitely explain your confusion, the OP was looking at both being 4x4, glad he found the truck he wanted!

Got the Sport in 2016. Was the only one on the lot, Silver! Love the truck, slowly adding everything to make it a Sport that OR. I take it up to the hill and OR a bit, got sliders, skid plate, Wildpeaks, new wheels, and adding as I free up $$$ I also had a OR while my truck was in for a recall, had it for a month and loved that too :) Can't go wrong with either, but if the amazing hood scoop is what your looking for, go Sport :)

4x4's generally are more because the risk profile is higher. They're typically higher vehicles and more likely to roll so they get a bump in price as a class.

Right, but we were comparing a 4x4 Sport and a 4x4 Off Road, why would they be any difference in insurance?

I feel like my 6MT sport with minor upgrades out performs my friends with similar equipped OR trucks with automatics. Once you upgrade the shocks the trucks are basically the same. In the 6MT crawl control is just your right foot :D. It does suck not having a rear locker but I'll have an ARB one soon.

I didn't really have any context to the post you responded to and took it at face value of a comment that a 4x4 is more than a 2wd. Might have misread but I can also say that a DCSB OR is more than an ACLB Sport with all else equal. At least, it is for me in my area.

Hah these are all the reasons I didn't want a sport. I don't like the wheels at all and for the life of me can't understand why people want a fake hood scoop, especially on a truck. It's a truck, trucks are for hauling shit, not a sportscar meant for cruising and racing. If that's what you want why not get something like a GTI? But to each his own I guess..

A good friend of mine had a 2wd tracker for a while in high school. The mind still boggles at that places we managed to take that thing. It was small enough to fit down most quad bike trails. As long as we kept enough momentum going it would go through and over just about anything. Needless to say it got abused heavily. Kept kicking for way longer than it should have too.
