I've read up on the importance of the filter swap on 2nd gens on the emissions air pump. I can get the UNI Filter here but its quite a bit more than what I paid for the K&N one shown in the photos. I have a family member at a parts center that can get me stellar prices but he can't get the UNI. It appears to be identical to the UNI minus the color and what not...actually fits better under the cap than some of the UNI filters I've seen online(Slightly smalled diameter I guess). Still 1" diameter connection and all that good stuff. My question is whether or not to use the air filter oil it came with? I installed the filter today already but haven't driven anywhere yet really. Any risk running this filter instead of the UNI? With or without the oil? Anyone oil the UNI? I'm pretty new to this truck and this is my first post. Thanks for any help!

yup agreed. You are just filtering out the big particles, not nearly as sensitive to "dirty" air as the air intake, in which case i wouldnt touch a KnN with a 10 ft pole.

I paid like 9 bucks for mine? What’s the price difference? 36 cents?

Yeah I got the KnN one here for like $18CAD. The Uni filters I've found online go for about $50-$55 shipped to my location. There are the Ebay options but never know what they are.

I'm not familiar with their products, are they not reputable?

I got mine for 10 bucks on Amazon, perhaps somebody in the US could order one here and ship it to Canada?

Thanks man but I think the K&N will do. Just saw that most people ran the UNI. Just verifying that it wasn't for a specific reason.

Well in the motorcycle world, uni is far superior to kn in preventing dirt penetration

Ok, are you talking right off the get go or more of an occurrence over time?

Both. I have never liked kn. Seems like it’s not as good at keeping dirt and dust out

Yeah, just doing some reading on it now and most people tend to agree with you regarding K&N filters. However, I can't see this little filter letting much more through than the crappy piece of foam Toyota installed in the pump in the first place.

correct, the crank breather you are fine, its all the same.

K&N engine air filters that claim more flow, might flow better but its because they have much larger filter openings which allows more and bigger dirt particles in.
