I wouldn't go that far, but you technically have to the bottom of those slots. I agree with others, you'll get another 20,000 at least. The grooves are typical from off-roading, at least that's my experience.

I’m going in tomorrow for 35,000 mile service on my 2016. At 30,000 they told me I was already at a 4 and would recommend changing them next visit. I sure thought 10 Miles one way to work on back roads and occasionally pulling my small boat fishing would not wear brakes out so soon.

You should ask to see them and make the call that way. They make money selling you parts and labor. It's a business.

It's all a matter of driving conditions. If I burned through 8 mm of material in 40K miles, math would say that I'll get at most another 20K miles.

I plan to swap them out the next time I rotate tires. I'll use the same rotors through another set of pads.

It's funny. That is almost exactly what I used to get and people didn't believe me. My work schedule changed and now I have to cross town in traffic 2x/ day and I'm burning through pads twice as fast. Makes sense I guess.

for what it's worth i believe you. the pads were down to nothing but, it is possible. a lot of my driving is at night with long interstate stints, with back roads and hard breaking for curves mixed in. along with some regular stop and go city driving.

yes you read correctly. it's 185.5k currently. should pass 200k by new year, likely well before. i mean at this point the truck is like a wife. i love it but there are nagging things that break your balls at times. no serious issues (knocks on forehead). it's a 4banger access cab auto 4x4.

I replaced my brakes at 50k miles about two weeks ago. My old pads still had life left in them too. My rotors are smooth.

Hopefully some better pads and rotors will do you some good. Good luck OP!

My rotors started shaking a little at certain speeds. I ended up changing the pads and rotors @50,000 miles.

Backtracking through some upgrade threads, I settled on some Centric Premium brake rotors which were a little heavier allowing for a little better absorption of heat. After doing the 55,000 mile tire rotation and inspection, I can still see the machine marks and they are holding up well. Also, the shake is gone.

For pads, I ended up with Akebono ProACT Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set.

I just replaced my OEM pads with the ceramic Duralast Golds. I can't tell the difference. After bedding them in correctly they will kick on the anti-lock system just fine on dry pavement. At 130K miles my rotors look just fine and are still smooth. I don't know why you would have the grooves you do on yours. My rotor do have a little wobble when slowing down fast on an off ramp. Might change them out for the Duralast Gold rotors next spring.
