What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

it can be done though. not like this trucks a daily.. its been down for 2 years.. soo im willing to make things work.

 

No. I mean just look at everyone else that was running stock ones till this guy started making them. Its not really needed but if you do plan to ride on the bumps alot then its worth it

 

actually.. looking at even the brand new trucks.. i can probably make the airbag work with the charge out of a sequoia.. is it safe? who knows.. but they look like they're the same size cartridge. so in theory you could put a 2016 tacoma wheel in on of the older trucks if your willing to get a sequoia clock spring and do some modding..

(i could see those newer wheels with all those extra buttons making interesting setups for lights and stuff)

 

I've been fine with stock front bumps but I ordered me a set last week for the hell of it, they haven't shipped yet though. Really I just wanted something for the rear but I'll wait till he comes out with his to try.

I forget that those newer style airbags use the dual-stage charge. I believe consensus is that you shouldn't mess with the stock charges. Certain year Sequioa airbags used the single stage charge that our trucks use. I used an airbag out of a 2000-ish Lexus IS300 which has the correct single stage airbag charge. I just had to swap out the clockspring and re-pin for the 'paddle' shifters to control audio functions instead of transmission shifting.

@mechanicjon can help a lot more than I can.

 

The cancel cam changes when going to the newer wheels. The 3rd gen style I have no idea what the back of the steering wheel looks like. As far as changing the airbag charge, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just be careful and guard against static electricity. I did a write up on the conversion I did. It's in the sticky section.

Getting it to control lights or other circuits will be tough. It's all based off the amount of resistance each button sends to the interface module. That signal is sent out to radio thru small head phone type jack.

 

Still working on adapting my IS300 steering wheel to work with my truck. Where do you usually pick up your resistors? I used to go to RadioShack but you know what happened to them.

Trying to fit in a trip out to an SVRA before I put the lift on for a baseline test. Half the state is on fire, however, so it's a little difficult to find a good place to test it out.

Just the brass dust cover, it free wheels and spins and sounds like a bell rattle when spinning on the flange section

 

Exhaust hanger deal too unless you plan to or have already cut the exhaust

 

Took the rear drive shaft off to replace it with a new one.
Had to cut all 8 bolts off to get the shaft off,
The front and rear bolts are different,
dealer told me they were the same and gave me 8 bolts all the same.
front bolts to the rear drive shaft look like they are pressed in when you torque the nuts.
Any help with this part number for the 4 pressed in type bolts please
I have a photo of the new rear bolt and a photo of the cut bolt I need.

Figured it out, the bolts are pressed into the flange, you can’t buy the bolts separate.
Flange and bolts come as one piece
