I guess I should have given more info instead of all these probing questions. I've ran into a few issues recently where I've found my truck unlocked in the morning and I'm trying to figure out how it's unlocking or have something auto-lock it. Can the app auto-lock or is it manual only? If it does have auto, can it based on geofencing?

 

What type of remote starter?

 

I don't have any remote starter now. Trying to decide which one to get. I was just wondering if either the big two can handle some lock notifications and maybe/hopefully some auto-locking features.

 

The module is only controlled via your remote, rf remote or app via cell module. It does not monitor your car to let you know if it is unlock or locked. The app will tell you the status of your car as it will show you if unlocked or locked, but doesn’t notify you. Nor will it auto lock if you unlock it.

 

To set your system apart from others, might I recommend an Apple Watch app? My wife has one for her Volvo and it’s SO much nicer than having to pull her phone out to use the app.

 

I don’t create any of this. There is a company called Fortin who creates the module and wire harnesses. I just resell them. Also, with the cell start, carlink/mycar creates the apps for all the

$182 ascl6 remote start cellular interface module allows you to start your car from your phone 1 year included

ascl6, teleconnect, autolink, etc. they make pretty much all of them minus DEI smartstart.

 

That is about at the same cost of if you were to buy the module and harness yourself from Amazon. If its a good deal would depend on if the the guy actually properly updated and programmed the module for the Tacoma.

probably a better idea to order from @jmeitz as who knows how good the customer service is from that seller if something isn't right.

 

Hi all,

I contacted this same seller and asked if they could program it for a 2018 Tacoma from a different listing before this listing was posted. First time I ever installed something like this myself. Everything was preprogrammed and the install takes less than 30 minutes. Only 2 of the plugs are used, so I recommend purchasing some wiring harness tape because the harness has lots of extra wires for different installations that are not needed. wrap the extra wires up good so there is not rattle or vibration.
Be very careful with sliding in the two plugs (B and the one that connect to the steering column).
The harness I received originally must have had 1 bent pin and the touch lock sensor from the door handle stopped working. The seller sent me a replacement harness. When I removed the original, I found the pin sticking out of the plastic connector to the truck.

Anyway, with the new harness, the starter works great and the seller was way faster with communication than I ever could have expected. I can post a video of the install if anyone is interested
