No doubt Toyota builds solid products. Keep in mind that back in the “good ol days”, men tended to be men and the presence of forums for sheeple to cry / complain and pass on blame, was not as prevalent.

This has greatly contributed to the “decline in reliability” for products all across the board.

Ha. The reason problems are talked about on this forum is nobody ever talks about when things go right, right? 20K people buy this truck every month. There are less than 1K total that own a 3rd gen that post here. You really need to understand and put into the proper perspective your judgement based on these posts. This truck has no problems compared to other vehicles. Go read some Jeep or Ford forums sometime.

in the 2 yrs we had the 2016 Tacoma, we had the tsb for the front a-arm whistle tsb done, shift tsb done (this wasn't really and issue for us as we got use to the shift points after a few months, but it did fix the cruise control being touchy on slight hills/head winds), sun/moon roof fixed (they had to add a foam block to the front of the opening).

they never did fix the front passenger A-pillar squeak during cold winters, and the surge was something we never encountered since we never pushed the gas pedal past 1/2 or 3/4 down requiring that much get up and go in a short time. I did run into it on a blue moon, but 95% time it never bothered us as we never pushed the engine to make it rear it head.

outside of that, we never had an issues or complaints (outside the small cab space after getting 2-3 dogs, hunting gear, 2 people inside a Tacoma that forced us to move to a tundra crew max). we never had any issues with our 2012 or 2006 Tacoma.

out of all the vehicles in my sig, I think the only vehicle I had any issue that wasn't resolved was the temp gauge in my 1984 Cressida that I could tap and make it flatline or jump back to normal reading.

but out of all the vehicles we have had, the confidence the Toyota's gave us was more than what the other brands gave us. I never second guessed that a Toyota would leave us stranded or failed to start/run during our winters when it hit -20F ambient and the vehicle sitting outside for 8-10hrs and just starting up. I never worried that my wife would call me and say the truck/vehicle wont start.

Dude, you made the mistake of buying a vehicle in it's first new model year. You should never do that, Toyota or otherwise. Wait until they get the bugs worked out next time. You bought a first year model. You had problems that have since been fixed. Yes, there should not have been problems, in a perfect world, but nothing's perfect.

    Next time, wait a year.

    Sad, but true.

The irony that I am responding to your post on a public forum is not lost on me either, lol.

Have you tried using the ETC PWR button?

Short answer, no. If you want a diesel get an older diesel or go full size. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about Colorado. Every Colorado owner I’ve talked to and why they want to sell complain of sensor issues and an underpowered engine for what it is. You need to do some mods to get that puppy breathing a little better which can/maybe void your warranty.

Trust me I know & was expecting to have issues. It was just to good of a deal to pass up & the color I wanted. By the looks of it waiting a year would not have mattered though as the 17's have same problems.

I can honestly say that I have not experienced any issues with my ‘17.

Those all seem like relatively minor issues minus the hood issue..I’d take those over major power train issues. Any vehicle you own will have some sort of issue. It’s a mechanical machine, it’ll have issues. You can get yourself some nice chevrolegs if you find the vehicle to be too troubling, and move on with life and complain less:thumbsup::deadhorse:

Lol, I made the same "mistake", but I haven't had any of the problems yet.

My 97 Dakota was the first year of that gen also, and also relatively trouble free for the 19 years I owned it.

    Go figure.....

    Colorado diesel 0-60 is 9.7 seconds and 1/4 mile is 17.2 !!!!!
Some articles call passing borderline acceptable.
No way I would ride that pos. 10 seconds to get to 60 !!!! Wow.
Good luck you’ll need it.:rofl::rofl:

Taco can tow 4200 with ease.

Not that it matters but the brake light and hood still showing in 2018 as well as the diff in 2017.
    Still minor issues imo.
No differences between 16 17 18 except options and colors.

Imo that brake light desgn needs a complete redesign and mod for ALL years.

At my work we've switched to all gasoline ambulances and staff vehicles because of the huge pain in the ass modern EPA regulations have made diesel vehicles.

I'd never buy a diesel for that reason alone.
