Heck ya. I half thought about seeing if some local folks wanted to split the cost of a Tactrix. With about four folks, I'd pay out $50 regardless of ownership of the tool. We'll see what the dealer says first.

Can you confirm a health check plugin to TS will show the update? No need to get pushy with the dealer about how the file is .zipped in a separate TSB?

    Mostly stuff I built.
I can. I just did it in the driveway this morning. Performed a health check and it showed YES in bright red on the far right in engine ECM row. Downloaded the file from here in this thread and flashed it on my ECM. Huge improvement over stock tune.

I've been under a rock the past two weeks and have missed this entire threat.

Can somebody explain what "surge" means? The OP said "surge/stutter." Those are two different things ENTIRELY to me.

So, say you're at about 2k to 2,500rpm and you get on the throttle. If you feel some bucking / unevenness from the motor, that is surging. Sometimes you feel like it could be you or the road causing throttle inputs.

    Ah! Thanks.

Can't say I have that issue. But I also drive my truck like I'm trying to balance an egg on the hood.

It is pretty subtle for me, but can be annoying when folks are along for the ride. The bigger difference are the other fixes that folks are talking about. Smoother all around with better throttle response.

Honestly I've started driving my 65 so often now my Tacoma feels like a spaceship when I get in it. Even if there was an issue or hesitation I'm not going to be able to perceive it.

Ha! It can be hard to keep perspective when hanging out on TW, but there is some need for improvement in the programming. No regrets, just some small desires.

    Sweet ride though! Enjoy it!

Completely understand. I just haven't noticed anything on my truck. Nice to know there is a fix if I ever need one.

Hmmmm. The reports continue to sound good. I'm going to get this update, I'm just not sure which way yet.

    image.jpg Alright. So today was a NO-GO.
They need a TSB. Bottom line.

I tried my best to push the issue, told them about 04B13. They said they knew nothing of it, and the service rider rambled off some other random numbers, and said it only regarded to the auto transmission stuttering in high altitude.

I said I could duplicate the transmission surging and stuttering via test drive, but said I’ll just wait till an official TSB write up from Toyota comes out. (Didn’t want to waste more time on an issue that they didn’t have proof from Toyota Corp.)

Not sure why some Toyota dealerships are on it, and others are behind the curve... or is it the techs? Not sure but today, was a no go.

Why not try the dealer first, and then if they shove you a fat one just figure out a way to do it on your own. That’s my plan for sure.

Did you ask them to do a health check in techstream?

That’s what I asked them to do. They said they would. But... It still remains to be seen on Weds.

I’m really curious as to why the TSB hasn’t been applied to Techstream. It is obviously having a positive effect on our manual trucks. I know these people are 1) getting it to work and install. 2) Their reports to the changes all sound similar and definitely not made up. I hope they don’t do the same with me. I’ll buy the cable and Techstream if I have to but I would rather get it done with them if possible.

This is why I will wait for a TSB or just buy the cables and do it myself. My dealer sucks like yours.

Sooo isn’t it impossible that they ran a health check and no updates appeared? If they do run one it’s my understanding a new calibration shows up. They could’ve just lied
