I'm only around 1700 miles, and averaging 18 to 19mpg. Guess I need to drive more to see 20s

I had a '94 Dakota with 157K and zero problems lol. I have always avoided a first year model run though. Funnel effect.

Dude! I discovered stretchy jeans recently! Look and fit like just regular old jeans but so much more comfortable. Lee makes a great pair, you gotta try them!
Yeah, I've had to get impact guns rebuilt...

I am more of a let fate take it's course type- my little S10 shit the bed in 1997, right after my 2nd son was born- the Dakota was the only mid-size truck on the market at that time and the 2 door access cab fit the bill. That truck was a champ- until Feb 2016- the Toyota Tacoma was the best option this time around.

I think he already has a few pairs....lol

I know a bit about new design introduction:
No matter how much you test, there will still be issues. What happens every time? Lots of problems to begin with... fix the bad ones first. As you start fixing the problems, fewer people have them, then fewer, etc. We call it the fullel effect. Lots of problems at the beginning, very few at the end.

I remember visiting this forum in early 2016 and reading. I lol'd and waited until 2017. If you read between the lines here it's easy to see. Lots of problems with 2016, fewer with 2017 and still fewer with 2018. Want me to predict the future? Starting late next year there will be some new problems pop up, this time due to durability issues. Don't know if it will be a latch or a bearing, but I can guarantee you it will be something. It happens with every mass produced product with mechanical bits and 6000 parts.
I actually had a 400 level elective back in college that was all about complex product life cycles. Sure, every now and then there are outliers, meaning someone gets a lemon and someone gets one that is perfect, but looking at all the data will show this pattern.

Where the challenge is when you produce one-off complex products that cannot fail, like the space shuttle. That takes an incredible amount of engineering and testing.

So what were the lots of problems with the 16's that don't exist now??? I have had 0 in over two years other than a battery.
The design has not changed. I know of only one part in the tailgate that was changed.
Care to add ? You lol'd and waited for 17 ? You bought the same exact truck as 16 build, especially a late build, lol. A cps (part) can happen any year, not specific to 16.
People whining about lca holes which still exist and smitty were 99% of it. You just know what to read and know whats worth it and true.

Internal revisions. Sure the design did not change but some parts and processes got revised, otherwise, the noise would still be in the rear diff, hoods would keep coming unglued, rear diffs would still weep, brakelights would still leak, etc. Every OEM constantly revises their parts and processes, you just don't know it.
Yes, some who own the 18's could still have a problem, but because of revisions, the number of incidents have decreased. They always do one way or another.
