Falcon Shocks for Tacoma by TeraFlex - new suspension options for 2016+

Front shocks at heavy setting?

Falcon told me their taco was setup with a 1” block and the front set to heavy. That’s what they recommended for the travel in these shocks.

So I’m strongly considering these. Let me see if I get this right. These front and rears have external reservoirs? I get 1” of lift on both ends? Other then the kit from the site, is there anything else I would need?

 

No. Rear has reservoirs, front does not.

Rear lift is accomplished by blocks or AALs, add a leafs, not the shocks. The leafs do all of the work in lifting and absorbing the bumps on the road, the shocks just keep it under control and they move up and down.

You would need a block or AAL for the rear.

 

Are these still not on the open market yet? I don't even see them on their website...

 

so do these work the same as Bilstein 5100s? preloading the shocks for lift?

If so, I wonder if you could use something like an OME 888 spring and set these shocks to "0" just like 5100s.....

Ditto. These do not lift the rear. The front can be set at three settings. 0 is stock. Level - levels front with rear. Heavy setting - raised front end over level for negative rake (designed to level truck with heavy front bumper and/or winch setup).

Rears have piggyback resivoir. The option I went with is the tow/haul option which gives three stiffness settings. Falcon/ TeraFlex does not recommend going higher than an additional 1” above stock. When I spoke to Falcon, their taco was setup with a 1” rear block, set to heavy in the front. These were “designed to work with Tacoma’s stock components”.

Personally I wouldn’t utilize these shocks for anything more than what I’ve mentioned above. They are phenomenal and I am very pleased with my purchase. However, I’m not looking for a full suspension build. My truck is level and I love it. When it’s time for new tires, I will add the rear block and set the front to heavy to make room for bigger shoes, likely 275s. According to Falcon, you should be able to run 33’s with very minimal trimming. They actually did there trimming with a razor blade.

 

Very similar to bilstein setup in the front with the ring adjustments. Falcon did not recommend or have anything to say against going with OME springs. They only said that these are designed to work with all existing suspension components. If anything, I would say that you open a bigger can of worms with the bilstein setup (need for UCAs, springs, shocks, rear leaf pack, etc.). Just my opinion.

Initially I thought these would be exactly like the bilsteins. But then after speaking with Falcon, it was clear that these were simply a suspension upgrade and leveling platform.

Edit: I wanted to add that I went ahead and did the diff drop kit with my shocks and have not noticed any issues.

I am not sure where you are located but when I called Falcon, they sent me to my local shop as the preferred vendor for my area.

Came across this taco with AAL. Wonder if this is too much travel or if it’s right at that additional 1” recommendation from Falcon....

 

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm really trying to understand all of this lift crap, but I don't understand how everywhere I read on TW everyone who is putting anything over 265's on their Tacoma's with or without every coilover lift imaginable, they are doing the CMC, melting the inner fender liners, smashing the pinch weld, etc. in order to fit their tires, but somehow you can magically stuff 33's if you just have the Falcon's. Is there something I'm not understanding like the coilovers change the suspension geometry more or something. I thought I half ass understood this stuff, but the more I read the more confused I am. I don't understand why Tacoma lifts are so much damned more expensive than Wrangler lifts. I threw on an OME kit on my Sahara and some 33's and was off and running. I'm half assed scared to pull the trigger on a new Tacoma because it's so confusing. Thanks for your input in advance.

You are incorrect. In practice, especially for mostly stock set ups, the front shocks gain almost no heat during off road driving. The rears have to control the heavy axle and will start roasting and blowing seals under long wash board roads where the fronts aren't much over Ambient air temperature. When the sway bar is left connected, like in most builds where these shocks are used, the rear end does most of the flexing during slow off roading.

The piggy back is not primarily implemented for cooling. It is used to allow a larger volume of air to compress and expand under suspension movement.

I'm not drawn to these shocks due to their price, but the stock Off Road shocks on my truck are hot garbage. These are a major improvement

I do not own these and I do not plan to, but based on the specs, these are a huge improvement over the stock shocks. I also believe the stock shocks are garbage
