Water leaks. What should I do?

Little bit of an issue here guys. I recently got my truck back from the body shop for hail repair and a recent rainstorm here in dallas revealed that my truck is now leaking water. I have water coming in through the passenger side A pillar grab handle and somewhere through the rear window. The body shop has agreed to fix the leaks for me, but as for water getting inside I'm not totally sure what to do about it. My carpeting is soaked in some places and damp in other places but there's no standing water. And my seats are slightly damp but not totally soaked (as if someone sat on them with wet pants). Should I be concerned about mold with this amount of water? Will some simple air drying suffice or should I demand the shop to shampoo my upholstery, or worst case scenario replace my upholstery? I've never dealt with any type of water damage before so I don't know if I should be super concerned or not.

 

You can probably dry out the carpet and seats, but I would be concerned about that A pillar stuff. There is wiring and an airbag in there.

edit. if it is't something permanent then i'd say you are ok. my truck cab has been full of wet clothes, and other moisture promoters on frequent occasions. i have a bit of rust on the bolts that hold the seats in.

 

I would wet vac out any moisture then spray some Lysol in those areas of carpet & seat. I'm sure some 100+ temps will help with that also!

 

Either roof rack or third brake light.

 

My windshield was replaced and a month later my door ajar chime wouldnt turn off while i was driving. They narrowed it down to a bad windshield seal that let water in the passanger kick plate where it pooled up and got into the door electrical.

You might want to pop off the plastic kick plates and make sure theres no water build up in there.

Yep once my truck is out of warranty.I'll be taking everything out and putting a nice bead of silicone down and calling it a day

 

Just do it now, who cares, you can peel it off in 10 seconds if you have to warranty

Really I never understood everyone here that can’t fix this. They put on big ass lifts, tires suspension and all kinds of fucking shit but they come in here complaining about a water leak. WTF?

What kind of silicone do you use that peels right off? Lol I'm only asking because all the ones I've used for bathrooms and windows are a pain in the dick to remove... And most require a sharp blade to take off easily.

 

Clear silicone, you can buy it for $3.99 at Lowe’s hardware. It peels off if you want with any kind of alcohol or anything similar

 

I've always used GE silicone II and works amazing on tile and such. But if you have a link/product that is easily removeable I'd def just put a bead down.

That's the stuff I use on my bathtub tiles and around the house. Works awesome but a PITA to remove! Lol thanks for the recommendation

 

It comes off clean metal very easy, that’s why I love it. Really, try it sometime.

Dirty bath tubs, not so much

 

Wd40 also removes it easily. I may put a bead somewhere inconspicuous and see how it works! Thanks man

Thanks for all the replies guys. And sorry for my late reply. I've been off the forum for a couple days.

The shop thinks the front leak is either bad weatherstriping or a bad seal on the windshield replacement. And they think the rear leak is a bad brake light seal. I don't have a rack but my service advisor said when they pulled the weatherstriping from the roof they found the predrilled holes for the roof rack to be wide open. They assumed this was normal and simply reinstalled the black weatherstriping over it.

My truck was a demo unit so it had about 2,000 miles on it when I bought it (a dealer supervisor used the truck for a short period). This tells me that the truck had a rack on it during its demo days and it got removed when they sold it and the dealer didn't bother plugging the holes. I guess the weatherstriping was enough to keep water out of the cab until the body shop jostled with it.

As for the wet carpet the shop said they'll remove it and shampoo it. Any of y'all have experience with getting their carpets shampooed? Will this be enough to keep mold and mildew away?
