Mine cracked at the top of the spindle. The cracks were only about an inch long but it was enough to make it howl real bad when the AC was on. I took pictures, I looked for em, I dont see them.

My a/c blower broke when it was 113 degrees. It was 2 years to the day when I bought my truck and had just rolled 40K. It was out of warranty, but the dealer said Toyota should have recalled the blower a year ago because it's a huge issue. They gave me a brand new Tacoma as a loaner and said the blower would take 3 weeks to get because they are on back order. They ended up getting it fixed in 10 days and didn't charge me a dime. It's the first issue I've had with it.

Another owner checking in with a broken fan. Seems it happened when the truck was started up with the fan in high. I can run it on low and 2nd lowest. High and second highest cause a hell of a noise. I'm still 900 miles below warranty, so that's good.

Anyone in the Nashville area had there's replaced lately? I'm curious on the wait time. I'll be calling in the morning to see.

So I think this has happened on my truck. Last week I heard some rattling coming from the glovebox, thought it was the manuals moving around so I took them out. Was driving with my wife the other day and heard a clicking, we didn't know what it was.

Well, today I turned my AC off while driving into work and heard a rattle from the glovebox area, like someone is sticking a finger into a fan blade to slow it down. Tested it a few times and sure enough, it rattles every time it is turned off and slowing down. I can slightly hear it when it's on as well. Maybe I'll try a video later, but I'm a little worried as I've got a 440 mile round trip coming up this week and if the AC fucks up with my pregnant wife and two passengers I'm going to flip my shit.

When mine blew it sounded like a chicken bone in a garbage disposal; it completely exploded.

My taco is at the dealer for this same issue. Service guy said it could be up to two weeks or more. Definitely should have ben a recall if part availability has been in this state for over a year.

And, unfortunately they had no tacos to loan. I'm in one of the new CH-R's. I hate it.

Attempt at preventative maintenance. If the correct long nose pliers are used the clamp can be installed from the glove box with the cabin filter removed and you do not have to remove the blower motor assembly.

I Hope it works for you. I just took this pic of a new one and you can see the shaft's well short of the end of the fan and tapered.

My sons 2017 shattered so I checked my 2016 with filter check. It’s starting to crack from the bottom towards the top

Let's hope mine makes it through summer. Didn't turn my AC on the way home to "preserve" it for as long as I can.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Interesting pic. Disturbing somewhat, since I don't think the sort of reinforcement I have done or have also suggested doing would provide much of a benefit if the crack starts at the base and works up. Honestly I would not have thought the failure would work that way.

Thanks for the effort involved in checking, and submitting a photo.

No reason to not use it. Just set the fan speed to manual and turn it down a bit before shutting it off. Mine has dual zone automatic AC which has enough delay when it first starts up that I can manually turn down the fan speed before it runs wide open.

Took mine in this morning and had a new fan by lunch. The rep said she's replaced more of these than she can count.

I took a small hose clamp and tightened it to help keep it in place since temps in south Louisiana indexing close to 110.

@KellyJoe Good photo there, I missed it somehow. I feel my fan shaft went higher/deeper than yours, but I'm coming to the conclusion that the failure may not originate at the nub end of the plastic fan, but at the base after seeing photos, and of course your photo. Of course, not enough info to say this is definitive.

Relief may be in sight: there is a service campaign now on this fan apparently. See this thread, I'm linking it to this current thread since so many people on this thread may just not see it. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ac-blower-motor-recall-on-tacoma’s.563876/

Long story short (too late!!!) there appears to be a remedy now with hopefully a redesigned part, and as people get this repair done, we'll come up with a new part number, new information etc and it will get into the forum.

So someone please clarify--Tacoma '16 and '17 owners who have experienced this failure discussed over the last 13 pages--this includes vehicles that had auto HVAC controls as well as manual HVAC controls, right? Somehow I feel it has been both systems in which failures have been experienced, not just manual controls.

    Mine is manual control.

Apparently the Service Campaign includes only those VINs w manual HVAC controls.

Just happened to mine in FL. As some others have said it happened when I started the vehicle with the AC on high. Will be taking it to the Dealer in the next couple days to get fixed. It isn't too bad right now as the only time it makes the awful noise is when its running on high.

After 6 weeks of hearing nothing back from the dealer regarding my replacement blower, I finally called and they miraculously had one in stock...
