is it okay to put jack stands on my skid plates?

im taking the front tires off today and i need to get the front end up but im not to sure where to put my jack stands.... can i put them on my skid plate or do i need to take them off?

 

NO! dont do it the skid plates are the thinnest shit ever. Put them on the frame or the jack points EDIT: I really cant stress this enough the factory skid plates are not good for jacking the truck up and I would not do this on any skid

 

I would recommend that you place the jack stands on the frame, right around where the crossmember is.

 

You can do it if you don't care about having a truck on your head.

 

But if they are stock, then no.


Put the jack stands under the frame. DO NOT put them under the lower control arms. That may work in a pinch, but I speak from experience when I say you don't want to get under that vehicle.


If the stands don't reach, get bigger stands. If not then get some wood blocks. They will work if you make sure the vehicle is stable when you rock it back and forth.


Consult the truck's manual for jacking points if you're still confused.

 

Absolutely NOT! Even if you remove the skid plate, there's nothing under that you can jack from.

Look in your owners manual. THere's a diagram in there that tells you exactly where to put jackstands.

I was just double-checking this before I started tire rotation (because the owner's manual only provides jack points for flat tire chaning purposes, not jackstand setup), and noticed that the FSM link provided in post #3 above is not for 1st gen.

The 1st gen manual (well, 2003 FSM) is on page IN-8 and is different than the 2nd gen.

hmm the FSM shows one central lift point in the front.. what if I just want to get one tire up? can I lift it on just one side and put the jack underneath?
