Still haven't pulled the trigger. Cross shopping a Tacoma 4x4 with a Colorado. Assuming 4x4 ground clearance and tires, how does the Tacoma perform in the rain?
I am not a heavy-footed driver but I don't want to end up in the ditch.

Have a Corolla which does great in the rain. Also have a 2016 Mustang GT which does great in the rain and has independent rear suspension. Looking to get them both sold off for the Taco.

Does fine if you understand that it's still a rwd pickup truck so light in the rear it can still swing out on you if you give enough gas.

If you can drive a GT mustang in the rain... you are more than capable of driving a Tacoma in the rain. It actually does well, not bad at all. Better in the rain than my frontier, and it that is on the terra grappler G2s. You’re not gonna get many votes for Colorado’s here. We all chose Tacoma, obviously. Tacoma is all around better truck.

Colorado beats Tacoma in one category. Used Colorado’s are much cheaper

    Is your GT mustang a 5.0 or a 4.6?

The Tacoma does fine in the rain, don't much care for my Mustang in the rain, if not careful the rear can kick out.

5.0. It's a 2016. I don't drive the Mustang MUCH in the rain but with the t/c on it's never been a problem. It's a stick shift and I think the IRS suspension helps too

You must live in a warm climate. My 87 GT was absolutely horrible in the winter. Only drove a couple times to move to storage & it was scary to say the least. Definitely get the Tacoma!

I learned to drive stick in my dads 88 GT. I remember seeing they brought the 5.0 back but didn’t know what years it was. That is an amazing motor!

On a Serious note. Get a Tacoma, it’s miles ahead of the Colorado.

rain driving is almost all about tires and driver than anything else.

if you have a tire that doesn't displace the water and slips easily you're going to have a bad time.
Don't drive like an idiot and have decent tires.

It does fine. With less than 400 miles on the ODO, I drove in a driving rain from a thunderstorm. It was like a fire hose was directed on the windshield where you couldn't see a thing, including the car in front of you.

Now I will say from a standing start, the traction control on the Tacoma seems less aggressive than my FJ or my son's 4Runner. On the day I bought it, I was getting tire spin from a standing start where my FJ would have cut the engine power if you even thought about spinning a tire.

No issues for me driving in rain whether light or heavy down pours.

    Thats not the right question.

Rain performance is dependent on tire selection not the vehicle.

Removing environmental factors and the tire selection. A Tacoma on stock tires in the rain does ok, just as any other vehicle with A/T tires given it's weight and size.

Plenty of nannies to keep your ass end planted and good tires will take care of the front.

If you've got good A/T tires she's safer than most cars on the road IMO. My Falken Wildpeaks AT3s grip for days, even in snow. Traction control on this truck is very powerful.

You don't buy a truck for its fucking fenders!
    2.5" lift w/35's
If you turn traction control off and give it some gas the Tacoma feels like a drag car in the rain.
    :burnrubber:

It does do fine in the rain with good tires and a light foot. If you go about 1/4 throttle from a dead stop in the rain, you're gonna chirp your tires, but other than that it handles well even at freeway speeds. Never had the rear end slide out on me unless it was intentional :headbang:
