Someone will need to confirm this, but I think that it doesn't matter what version of TS you have. You just need it installed so that the CUW file is a recognized file type. From there, it is self extracting into the ECU, right?

Does anyone know if this is a legit Tactrix product? Looks identical to the knock-off versions sold on aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/201...ol-With-ECU-FLASH-Cable-Open/32718589377.html

Also, would the legit tactrix product be more reliable/trustworthy than the Amazon cheap-o cables?

I think I would need an updated version of TS so it will recognize a newer model Toyota. Mine only has up to ~2014 models (don't remember exact model year, but it definitely doesn't cover 3rd gen years) to select from when connecting to the vehicle

That is what I am wondering. Also, I noted the shipping times. I've had stuff come airmail from China pretty quickly in the past, but customs has also lost some things in the past couple years.

No worries about bricking? Also, as compared to this from @pinochle 's post:

I thought they were more pricey than that. So are you just gonna subscribe to TS if you get it then?

Sounds reasonable. I have V12.20.024 that I DL from some other thread on TW. I can share a line or let me see if I can find the original post.

They ones from Tactrix are. This is a clone out of China. I've had some descent luck there in the past.

Just be careful with the bootleg VIM.
After some googlin yesterday, i was reading that the knockoffs can have an unreliable connection or even drop out. A real tactrix is like $160 from their website.

Agreed. That's one piece of kit you want to work properly!

C'mon guys, someone buy the real deal and whore that thing out like the ECGS needle bearing puller tool.

Thanks! That is what was said earlier in this thread but was looking from some reaffirmation. Ha!

Sooo, on that, I remember one of the holdups for that was getting some dongles through customs. In a dark corner of my mind, I wonder if those aren't clones also? Just from a known seller / batch?

I'm thinking of that, but it would drain the new helmet fund. Mine current one is so worn the visor won't stay up. . . 7yrs of hard riding. The liner is almost in tatters also.

Actually when you click the big red "YES" it take you to the TSB that says it only applies to the US market.
