Yeah, that's where I'm at with Entune...very frustrated that I paid for the JBL edition and I'll likely be swapping it out. And not happy about the additional $1k for that but I'd rather pay the money and be happy with my radio. And thanks for the recommendation on tires, I'll add that to my list to research.

And it's never off topic when talking Huskers. GBR.

hope you resolve your issues. i'll be paying attention to the route you go with audio. good sound is a must in something that you basically live in.

Agreed...and the integration is important. I went with a RAM Mount but that seems silly since I have a 2016 freaking vehicle. Integration with my phone is important to me and I've heard that the next iOS release will allow for Waze and such to be used through Apple CarPlay. I'm going to wait to hear more about that but I'll probably change my head unit in the winter.

It's not like I'm changing them every day.
You will lose some items but in the long run its worth the switch.

Apple CarPlay looks nice but luckily I haven't had any issues with my entune - I'm sure some better options will be available soon. Continue enjoying the truck in the meantime.

Oh, and had to stop by to say GBR!!

I am using Michelin defender LTX standard load on my 4runner. good tread, worked great during the last winter, quiet at 75mph and rated for 60k miles warranty.

the main reason Toyota took so long to implement apple carplay is due to privacy concerns. Toyota finally worked out a deal with apple to start including it in 2019 models and beyond.

android still hasn't met Toyota's privacy issues so at this time android auto is not going to happen for at least 2019 model year and nothing is on the table for 2020 yet.

and if you didn't notice its mostly how entune connects via BT that is the main issue with entune. but since Toyota has a agreement with 3rd parties via entune, a lot of the ads and extra crap you get with normal apps are not present in entune.

a good example is Pandora, have you ever notice that using Pandora you will never hear an ad but if you use the app via BT you will hear ads about every 4-7 songs. this comes back to the privacy issue, since Pandora cannot collect info about you, it cannot target ads to you and Toyota requires them not to per agreement.

I am currently sitting in the shop having a kenwood dnx9904s installed in my 18. it required the idatalink maestro and some other smaller parts to retain as much functionality as possible. I'm inept with electronics so I opted to not do my own install. I can post first thoughts here in about 4hrs with some pics

for tires, I have the Falken wildpeak AT3Ws, have about 4k on em and have noticed no change in MPG or road noise, traction has been solid as well.

For those that install aftermarket head units, can the JBL amp and woofer be removed? I don’t really care about audio quality and my head unit and SW work “OK” but CarPlay, better nav AND more storage behind the seat seem pretty attractive. I have just over 50K and other than one of the early trans/power TSB’s and trip meter reset fix, zero issues. Well, wind kazoo noise, but I live with it. Leaf spring squeaks come and go, also tolerable. Other than Entune, which is reliably mediocre, I’d like height adjustable seats and a pocket on the back of the driver’s seat. That’s about it ...

I just added the OEM Audio 450+ to my system and it is great, I also added some sound deadening to the doors and the sound is great now...

Wow. Very good mileage for OE tires!

Michelin Defenders. Costco. Look for the combination of Michelin's $70 off 4 and Costco's 1 cent / wheel installation. Hard deal to beat.

If you are truly OCD, I hope you are under a Drs care. It's serious.

Truth. No reason to suffer with the sub par head unit if it's not doing what you need.

The Entune mess is a poorly executed idea of an vehicular GUI. Not much better than my mid 80's Z car or late 80's/early 90's GM models, like the Rivera and Reatta, etc.

yeah I love my Michelin Defenders LTX M&S on my 4runner, even though it took them 2x to get them balanced correctly. diffinitely didn't want to replace the oem tires with same as they were horrible after the first winter up here. I toughed it out until they hit about 32k miles and swapped them (that took about 3yrs as I only avg about 10k a year)

This looks great! Looking to buy the same unit for my 16. How does the side profile look like? Does it stick out far?
