I really like my one piece Budbilt skid...3/16th steel and it covers quite a bit (isn't as narrow as some 1st gen skid plates that don't cover the cam tabs). It's definitely not lightweight but not as heavy as a 1/4" skid would be...I think it's right at 55lbs. I use my floor jack to take it on/off mostly because of how awkward it is to try and work with something that heavy while laying on your back (giggity)

Could always go with an aluminum option if you wanted to save weight but still get a good one piece skid.

Damn son that's going to be a project alright, assuming you're going to get everything one piece at a time? You could probably search the midwest for a truck with a rotted frame but super low miles and get it for dirt cheap, then just swap the frame onto it

Yeah, you don't really need that so much but you're in for some work when it comes time to put your drivetrain in it.
