They aren't a bad option for people that need extra protection but don't play in rocks...steel armor takes a big toll. I'm about to take my steel trans skid off that I put on a couple months ago and just put it back on when I plan on needing it, thing weighs probably 80lbs.

If you need an aluminum skid, you don't need a skid. If you're not playing in the rocks you don't need a belly skid.

I meant for the IFS skid, was just referencing my trans skid as an example. As of right now there are only a couple trails I do regularly when my trans skid gets used so it doesn't make sense to keep it on a daily 100% of the time...hardest part about installing it was doing the crossmember but I can leave that on and just unbolt the skid.

I dunno if an aluminum IFS skid would be worth it or not, I know it wouldn't be worth it for me considering the shape of my steel skid currently. I've never run one or really seen one in person TBH, don't know how they actually hold up or if they're worth their lack of weight in extra cost over steel.

To get any stonger than steel it has to be thicker. If you don't want it strong the stock skid is already lighter than most aluminum skids. They just don't fit in any real portion of people that need a skid. You either do and you want a strong skid, or you don't and stock or no skid is fine. I bash my stock occasionally but really don't nail it too often so it's a bit off kilter but still serviceable.
