What’s wrong with it?

 

It's some scary shit and it's everywhere

 

I'm gonna guess the output MOSFET is toast or maybe an OpAmp. It powers on, goes through all the functions but no audio. Haven't checked the preouts, maybe they still work but I don't have an amp in the cruiser so it does me little good. When I turn it on, one speaker will briefly pop and then silence, no music, not even a faint sound.

 

Can’t you just swap out the MOSFET? I rebuilt an old 1970’s Pioneer SX I bought from the e-recycler. It’s just a lot of through hole soldering.

 

I could easily swap the mosfet, but I'm not sure that is the issue either. It did this the other day and I pulled the fuse and it started working again. I'm not sure it is really worth troubleshooting considering it is a rather new Sony unit, not exactly a collectors item.

 

Could it be the amp? I looked on eBay and the stereo head unit itself is rare, but there are a lot of different amp units.

 

Oh, I have an aftermarket head unit, it's a Sony WX-900BT, I removed the stock Toyota head unit, amp, and weird dash, 3rd row speakers, and factory sub, and put in 4 sony speakers in the doors. I still have my stock head unit and amp if I ever wanted to sell the truck as stock or something, because as you said they're rare

Yeah the sony unit is the one that has gone bad. It's just out of warranty too
