2017 3.5L - I hear a chirping (like an aircooled VW) sound when engine is running.

    Thoughts?

Yes. Pretty sure it is. Just comparing the "sound" not the source.

Does it stop about 20 seconds after you start the truck?

Yeah, it tends to diminish over time. I was just curious about the source.

the injector cleaning cycles on & off. my understanding is it only comes on when warm and at idle. HPFP also has a chirping sound but not as loud and rarely see complaints about it. others will have more to add I'm sure.

I was thinking it could be the secondary injection pump. It kinda makes a whistling sound upon initial idle then goes away. Not sure how they sound on the 3.5. Mine sounds more like a turbo when it unspools.

Check your A/C line bolt below the air box. Mine had almost wiggled out! It squeaked when opening/closing the passenger door, intermittently while driving, and when I turn A/C on/off.

Edit: whistling negates my input. Good luck OP!

It is the high pressure fuel pump. If you tell them exactly what is making the noise, they will try to tell you it is normal. In my case, I was able to prove that it is not normal and get it replaced under warranty bundled with a bunch of other stuff (like the leaking differential).

It has not been determined if the noise is actually detrimental....but replacing it solved it. You can also swap to chevron fuel which seems to help.

lol then you both didn't read the manual and they replaced something that didn't need replacing.

+1 on what poppy said. Service writer and mechanic both tell me it’s the direct injection pump. Aka high pressure pump. Mechanic even told me it’s 50/50 a new one will fix the chirp but they ordered me one anyway. Will be replaced on the 22nd under warranty.
