Question: Should I pull the trigger?

1993 Off-road extended cab with 300k on body and 15k on rebuilt 3.0 V6, 5 speed manual. He is asking $4500 but I offered 3k. Minimal rust and 2 owners, current owner has had for last 10 years. He has replaced many parts and has records for everything.

Body is not pristine by any means but that's OK with me, wont worry about wheeling it and dump runs.

Should I go over 3k or walk away if he wants anything over? Not really the motor I was looking for but cant be picky with limited inventory out there.

He was saving it for his son but son is not interested in it (idiot).

Sounds like you already did pull the trigger? If you aren’t sure, why did you already put in an offer( a low ball offer at that)?

I'm sure he wont take offer, so let me rephrase. When he comes back with counter offer should I accept or walk away?

Have done enough online research to make my eyes bleed, looking for some first hand experience with older yotas.

Edit: Rebuilt motor makes me nervous.

 

3.0s have inherent head issues. If it was rebuilt well, nothing to be worried about for now, but be prepared for head issues down the road. It's not "if," but "when."

Any upgrades or just stock? 300k seems like a lot for 4k but idk much about pricing....

 

Pretty much stock other then some 3rd party off brand shocks on some well worn BFKO.

I read a lot of mixed reviews on the motor itself but everyone seems to love the durability of the truck itself.

 

Almost EVERYONE I know that had or has a 3.0 hates it. For 3-5 grand, you can get a real nice 22R/22RE motor Toyota or even a 3.4 (earlier year 3rd gen 4runner for example). Even if you were to find a deal and save a grand or two immediately by getting the 3.0, it's possible you will end up doubling that amount on repairs....

 

Or rock the 3.0 til you have problems and then upgrade to a 3.4

 

You totally could..... but why stress about it while having it, and then stress about having to sell it down the road?

 

Trying to find more info on this; specifically the land they "own or manage" but am having no luck.
