Tacoma Kicks Ass.....even without mods (well maybe with one or two)

I have had GMC, Ford, Nissan, and Ram trucks. Now I have a '18 TRD OR DC SB Tacoma. I need to say that this truck truly kicks ass! I've read posts here for a few months and see that many here are long time Tacoma fans, and some are even critical of their ride. Still others are heavy modders and have engineered some awesome changes to their vehicle.

In my first ever Toyota with almost 6K on the odo, I have learned the following:

    1. This truck can be as fast as you want it to be if you just drive it like you stole it. (someone here said that first).

    2. I did buy a SSP and like it, but since having the vehicle computer updated at the dealer 3 weeks ago it have been driving in "D" and love it!

    3. The Off Road suspension is awesome! I live in rural PA and the roads can be rough with holes and general deterioration. This truck handles these roads better than any of my other 35 vehicles I've had. Every day I am impressed with the smooth and quiet ride. This so far is my favorite feature on the truck.

    4. I had to get used to revving up my engine and seeing the tacometer occasionally hit 5500...but I'm not worried about it at all.

    5. This truck gets better every day that I drive it. I've gone on ten 3+hour trips and every one gets better than the last one.

    6. I love the sound system. There I said it. No need to change a thing (except maybe reverse the volume/tuning controls on the steering wheel for this up-down volume thinker)

    7. 20 MPG is just fine with me....every AWD/4WD I've had gets 20MPG or less. Even my Suzuki GV gets only 20 on average and it's a 4cyl. My Ram short bed regular cab got 13 with a 318 motor.

    8. The fact that so many people have joined forces to collaborate on the Tacoma experience is a testament to the awesomeness of this truck over time.

    9. It is a truck...and as a truck it does indeed kick ass! I do like me some big SUV type vehicles also....my Tahoe had a special place in my heart and I'd have another one without hesitation. But it wasn't a truck and trucks can do a lot more for me than a SUV.

    10. If I could change any one thing....get ready for it....I would add the Sport hood to my truck. The Off Road version is awesome and as I said the suspension works spectacular on real-world PA roads....but the hood does look cool and I just may have to buy one.

Again I need to say that the Tacoma Kicks Ass, has a ton of cool features, and happens to look pretty good too! I'd like to thank everyone here for all the helpful information on this website. What a valuable resource for Tacoma owners, past, present, and future!

Its so refreshing to see a post about a 3rd Gen that isnt a complaint thread. Lets see how long before someone shits all over the positivity.

All those reasons are why I want a 3rd gen Tacoma so badly. Glad to hear some positive remarks on them!

Agree with everything you said(especially about the volume buttons on the steering wheel)! Coming out of a ‘15 Silverado LTZ 5.3L I was worried it would feel like a downgrade but it has exceeded every expectation I’ve had thus far! My only complaint is my A/C makes the whistle noise like crazy but by the looks of another thread on here, Toyota is now trying to fix that issue. And even if they never do, I would still buy this truck again & again!

I see you drive the Sport with MT. I’d like to take one of those out for a spin. My truck has the AC whistle also, but it isn’t real loud and I hardly notice it. My old RAM made a similar sound and I never had it checked out. I’ll likely do nothing about it with the Tacoma. The whistle sound goes away when I mix in warm air on the temp dial.

I too am loving my 2 week old Tacoma. I also came out of 16” z71 LTZ and don’t miss it one bit.
I had a 15” Jeep Rubicon Unlimited and liked the size of it for daily driving but missed truck bed.
To me, Tacoma fits the need.... mid size truck that drives better than I thought....
I am definitely a fan with no real complaints( knit picking- could use power driver seat, electric folding mirrors) but certainly not a deal breaker.

The only thing I would change is get rid of this "fancy" Entune radio. I love the 4 doors, love the engine, love the MT, love the manual seats, but radio is to fancy for me.

I just learned what the ECON app does today. Yes it is a little high tech, but I do like it. I wonder if I’ll ever know all the things it can do? I do wish I could add my own apps to it.

I love mine as well. I’ve owned it for about 1.5 months and I am getting the 5k service done today. I have taken it down trails I would not have thought about in my last truck. It is super comfortable to me and I love pretty much everything about it.

I see so many 3rd gens on the road, their popularity might their only down fall at this point. I'm seeing like 2 or 3 at almost every red light.

I can’t help but eye-fuck every other Taco I see on the road. They just look soo. damn. good.

I also love how everyone’s is unique unless bone stock. You’ll rarely see two that are identical.
