Is moog lower control arms the best way to go

I have popping in my tie rods "the inner one left side" also my lower control arms bushing are looking bad also. I'm thinking of getting all moog parts. Is this the best way to go.

Moog is not even as good as they used too be,after they sold out.

 

I need to buy these same parts too. I don't have a 2nd gen but for the 1st gen, Rock Auto lists Moog LCAs as the economy line. I decided to go with Mevotech LCAs & Moog TREs since Moog TREs are geasable. That is unless anyone tells me otherwise about Mevotech.

 

i used Moog on my FJC lower ball joints. I pressed the oem ones out, installed the Moogs. i like they have a zerk fitting for maintenance. and a low profile grease boot rather than the oem fat one that is susceptible to getting poked/tearing. So far im pleased with them. should be identical for second gen tacos.

 

Lower ball joints are a different story. The argument is that factory Toyota lower ball joints use a liner for the ball that none of the after market ones use & therefore doesn't require periodical lubing. The Moogs don't have this type of lining & are not even machined well inside so they require the constant lubing.

I had no idea when I replaced my LBJs, I went with Moogs cause I thought the greasable feature was a plus. Had them for years now & they're still doing fine but I'll go back to the OEM on the next set. If the truck never sees offroad & is stock height, it may not matter much.

im looking to get 3 more years out of the truck as of now. mostly a street truck and some light towing 3,500 trailer.

 

I work in the aftermaket repair industry. Moog has an economy line that is Chinese junk and their better line. That being said I have been having really good luck with the mevotech heavy duty line.

 

I had the alignment bolt freeze up issue on stock lower arms.
To make my life easy I went with Moog lowers. I off road frequently and over 2 years have had no issues with the Moogs.
I also installed with the Moog grease-able alignment bolts. So far so good, no re-freeze up there and no issues.

 

Moog will be fine for this

 

I would steer clear of Rock Auto. I recently learned that their customer service sucks and you can’t even call them!!!! Everything is done over online “chat” or email.

 

Yup!! Just had to return something from there and it was a nightmare

 

That's how they are able to get the rock bottom pricing.. by ignoring every return/warranty issue! The parts pipeline is one direction only

Use OEM.

Rebuild your current ones. It doesn’t take very long at all. I am prepared to do a write up just haven’t gotten around to it yet. If you go this route I’ll show you how!

I was looking at the same issue as the alignment bolts were frozen and the a-arms cannot be removed without cutting the bolts. Everything is rusted. Researched the Moog parts and did a lot of reading. There is more bad than good, so I decided to go with used LCA's. Had a hell of a time finding a rustfree set. I bought the new alignment bolts at the dealer since I was reading some of the issues with the aftermarket bolts as well.
All that to say that I ordered a set out of California. They are literally like new. No rust, the bushings look fine, shipping across the country was $15 each and the cherry on top is that they provided all the alignment bolts...yep, those really expensive ones I bought new, came with the LCA's. The only rub is that they cost $85.00 each though I looked real hard for cheaper ones.

 

I'm in the Peoples Republic of California. Rust in not an problem 90% of the time.

Not worth rebuilding the LCAs. Dont mess around with cheapo aftermarket crap either. Best case if u do, u'll be doing this again soon. Worst, if u wheel then ur going to be f'd at some point when they fail.

Recommend to replace all of the adjustment hardware, bolts n cotter pins as well. He will help u with the parts. Rent tie rod puller for free (have to put a deposit) from national auto parts chains
