ECU TSB Update

I have a 2018 Sport I bought a month ago and the issue is present. As I said in a previous post, the truck I took for a test drive before I bought mine (also a 2018) had a really noticeable stumble and surge - so much so that I thought there was water in the gas. Mine isn't nearly as bad, though it is annoying.

 

I have a tactrix cable I got from my OV tune kit a while back. Am in SoCal, people can use it for free if they want to do their own update. Just meet up with me when I’m free. I do not know how to do this update, as I haven’t done it on my vehicle yet. I am not responsible for any potential damage (disclaimer). Just trying to help guys out as I know how frustrating dealers can be.

 

Anyone want to buy me OV tune and equipment? Not sure what it's worth? Half of new?

 

how do you transfer the tune if its key'd to the ecu?

 

Thanks so much for the replies. I have a smooth 2-3k RPM and no noticeable surge between 40-50 MPH and in no hurry to fug with the ECU so I will watch and wait. Thanks again, very informative forum

I am in the Phoenix area, and I should have a Tactrix cable sometime tomorrow. I was going to attempt to go through the dealer on Saturday when I have an oil change, but I like having gadgets for my truck so I bought one anyway. And that way if the dealer method doesn't work, I will just do it myself.

 

I’m not partial to any in particular. I’m in Asheville every few months and so far none have disappointed!

You don't. You can transfer/buy the cable yourself (used or new), but you still have to pay $600 for the tune licensing, which is tied to your ecu and is non-transferrable... The only way the tune is transferrable is if you sell your truck with the tune already on it.

 

@OVTune is there a way to "unmarry" the ECU, like COBB does with the Accessport?

Seriously though... COBB addressed this by having the tuner's software able to release itself from the car once the Stock tune had been reloaded. Not Jabbing at OVTune, just merely asking the question.

 

Toyota said my truck is ready to be picked up and that they ran the update!!

Yeah I hope they actually ran it, I'm going in about 30min to pick it up, hopefully it's not a "yeah there weren't any updates, its fully updated" situation. You never know with these dealerships..

 

Well my dealership is a shithole and didn’t want to do anything basically. They were nice about it, but again didn’t even try and help me. I f’ing hate those clowns in the service dept. I was cool about it but I wanted to raise hell, good thing I kept it positive for their sake.

I think I’m gonna try one more dealership maybe that is closer to my house, and then just flash it myself I get nowhere with them. At that point that’s my best option if I actually want it done.

Is there a way to find your ECU version easily? Can you pull up the info on Entune system or at least through a OBD reader + Torque? Or do you have to have TechStream or some other similar advanced software to find out?

Should be getting my Tacoma delivered next month sometime and will be interested to find what it comes with from the factory.

 

OBD Fusion can pull it. I wasn't able to find it with Torque. @MOC221_ knows how.
