Only difference I could see when I had my hands on them was that the stud hole for the tie rods is smaller. Actually the entire tie rod is smaller on them for some reason.

I’m waiting for Toyota to give me a compelling reason to buy a new Tundra. Some sort of clean sheet diesel would be nice.

Has anyone found a good HID kit for the 1st gen Tacoma’s? The one I put on my truck really sucks. I’m going to get in trouble for running the D2’s and lightforces eventually.

I mean the LC OEM coils. Most the OME coils for 4runners in the rear don't give a lot of lift with weight so folks run the LC ones. Looks like about as high as grants was. We swapped them to the 4runner coils as it was too stiff and would wiggle on the highway on bumps.

 

there is no kit unless you run projectors. HID bulbs aren't made to run in our housings and in fact you're being an asshole if you are running by blinding everyone.

Newer LED bulbs are now made with the proper reflectors so low beams don't blind people. About your best bet is some nice 100w LED bulbs. Otherwise you have to retro fit projectors.

I never have gotten in trouble once running offroad lights. Just use responsibly.

You can have my stock worn out LC rears haha, those should set you down nicely but still be enough since your rig is a lot lighter

 

Or they're the old stock ones.

They are very easy to swap. Just have to jack up the truck, remove the rear tires and shocks and drop the axle till the springs pop out. Set in the new ones and jack it up.

Also..looks like perhaps the smaller tundra brakes? The 199s?

 

Do you have a specific led kit in mind and if so does it have a heat sink, to keep snow off the lights in winter? I hate my current hid’s, one ballast doesn’t work half the time. At 4:30in the morning (my normal commute time), my reflexes can be a bit delayed getting the off-road lights off. Thus far the highway patrol has been very understanding.

 

Also I’ve got some kind of emissions stuff where my paranoid fab bussman holder is supposed to go. Was this an issue for you on IGOR? @Blackdawg

No. I have an 03, they moved the emissions stuff above the gas tank that year. Won't work with yours and older sadly..


For LEDs I can look for something. Philips makes a good one last I looked.

 

It looks doable to relocate all that BS, but I might just put the bussman bracket on top of the right wheel well upside down with a fabbed extension bracket as it still mirrors the firewall turned upside down.

For brake sizes, the 199mm ones Monte referred to would be marked 13WE I believe. If they are the larger ones, they will be 231 mm and marked 13WL.

 

Looks like that rig has been the beneficiary of a lot of love. How many miles are on it?
