I just got a 2010 double cab trd sport and I'm thinking of going back and getting extended warranty. Any input or feedback would be great!!!

Don't buy it from the dealer unless they can give a really good price

You will find a couple threads on here about good prices

The finance guy at Toyota lowered my interest a percent so I would buy the warranty. Funny how they can do that...

    .

I think that you have 3yrs/36k miles to get it.

If I don't trade in my present Tacoma, I will buy the extended warranty at about 30 months or 30k miles.

FWIW ... the exact same "Toyota Corp. Platinum Warranty" it is much cheaper here than at most dealers.

I was considering this as well. I believe they quoted me $545 for a 5 year, 60k mile extension. Supposedly they are using a different company than others, Liberty I think maybe?

Based on the prices in that link above it sounds like $545 is a steal. Might have to call him back this week...

This is what I did, I waited to see what my truck issues were during the 3/36 & if I was gonna keep the truck.
At 33k I bought thru Troy & have already used it at 40k. His price is awesome as well as a couple other dealers.
Plus I figure if I sell the truck now, it can help with the re-sale or turn it in pro-rated.

Yes within 30 days you can get a full refund minus an administration fee.
After that it is pro-rated. If you rolled the warranty purchase price into a Toyota financing plan, the refund goes to TFS. If its locally financed, I do not know what they do. If you bought it outright, they cut a check to you. It is on the back of the contract, bring it in to your dealer or call the number on the back. :)

the reason i buy toyota's in the first place is so i don't need to buy extended warranties (in other words, i don't). IF toyota's are going to start acting like american cars and breaking down this early, then i'm going to pass on buying one...

IF you do buy one, do a lot of research to figure out the dealers true cost before paying their normally incredibly marked up price.

hell, with the amount of money i've saved in my life by not buying extended warranties, i could pay for half of a new truck... (a bit exaggerated of course...) :D

Absolutely agree. Besides...these are Toyotas and built like brick shit houses. I have had 8 Toyotas previously and never had issues until well over 125,000 miles....

On the back of one of the many forms you end up signing it clearly states "portions of the interest rate are negotiable". That's the portion that the dealer gets from the finance company.
Unfortunately you never get to read that under pressure to 'sign and get driving'

It turned out to be well worth it for me. Little things are happening to my 06 with about 80K miles on it. The extended warranty covered:

    - Rear spring TSB - 100% no questions asked.
    - Overhead console - Temp gauge died - $950
    - Skid plate broke off - $280
    - Cab Fan replacement - $400+

OK. I'm not even sure I want to say why i bought the warranty because I'm worried what the salesman told me was not true...

    Well here it goes.

I got the Platnum Warranty that "covers" me until 2016. It cost me $1695.00 I bought it because the salesman said, "If you don't use the extended part of your warranty, the company will return the $1695 to you on xx/xx/2016"

So, i figured if i get a truck without problems, i get cash back, and if there are probs, i get them fixed...
