3rd Gen 6x9 Components for front?

Well, I tire of the Kicker Tweeters. In fact, I tire of the hodgepodge audio set up I have and want to clean it up. Right now I am running:

Kicker drop ins on the dash
PPI 6.5" woofer driver front door
Kicker Coaxial 6.75 in rear doors
Audison 10" sub in a Mr Marv birch box

What I want to do:

6x9" component system for the front, putting the tweeters in the sail panel
Matching coaxial for rear

I am not looking to go active crossover.

In my last truck I had the PPI 3-way component system (P65c3) powered by a bridged NVX JAD900.5 and it was a monster. I'm not looking to get that out of control (unless I can make it work with minimal screwing around with the dash spots for 3" mids)

So, you folks with 6x9 component set ups in the front, what are you running? Right now I am looking at CDT, HAT and Alpine X series....

Personally running kicker KS 6.75" components because they dont make them in a 6x9 for some reason. I have installed the alpine X series and loved them with good power pushing them. No personal experience with the other 2 you mentioned. One of my trainers is running Infinity Kappa Perfect 900's in his Camaro and they sound phenomenal.

While I don't have experience with morel, i have heard only praises about them. and that is one hell of a sale price! Still going for $420 on Amazon. Might want to jump on those

 

My only "issue" (and I'm not quite sure it is one honestly) is my amp @4ohm is pushing 85watts RMS, and the Morels call for up to 130.

I don't really feel like bridging my amp, I like having the rears powered as well....

And sell the speakers I have in the truck now.....

 

just because a speaker CAN handle a certain amount of power absolutely does not mean it MUST use that much power.

My kicker KS are rated at 125w RMS but I am only running 50w RMS and they are still very clean while playing loud. And I definitely cant play them at their full volume because its just too loud. And their sensitivity is only 91dB.

The morels are 92dB meaning they will play even louder than mine with the same power. AND you will be feeding them more power.

Trust me when I say, you will have no issues from being "under powered" lol

 

I was just looking at these and went with the 6.5” maximos ultras because the 6x9 are too deep according to Crutchfield.

82-8146 I'm so back and forth right now. I can't stomach $499 for a pair of Hybrid Audio. I know I said my budget in my head is like $700, but I want to match the rear doors as well.

 

Damn, I should have ordered them and tried it.

No complaints from the maximos, very punchy mid-bass with just aftermarket deck power (Still deciding on a 5 channel amp that will fit under the driver’s seat, looking at 75x4 for front and rears).

Everything I’ve read says the tempos will take all the power you can throw at them. I think you may hit diminished returns by going over 100 watts, and I’d consider spending difference going active with a dsp.

Have you looked at Audiofrog? Diymobile seems to have gotten on their bandwagon and they have a 6x9 mid that might work.

 

Audio Frog is A-La-Carte. 299 for 6x9, 199 for tweeter, 149 for crossover.

Not interested in running active. That's a can of worms I'll hate opening....

this is just my personal opinion, but that seems like a lot of money and high end equipment to keep the factory radio (which puts out pretty bad sound compared to mid/upper level aftermarket head units

I feel like there might be a bottleneck no matter how nice the speakers are

 

I agree. I wish I really had the bandwidth to learn to add a dsp and run an active front stage.

I'm circling back to the morels at this point. I have a real solid foundation if I want to go the dsp route with the amp and sub I have....

Yes, I know, but I think that's too much speaker for this. I need to reevaluate, HAT is way too high SQ for an Entune without a dsp, and for some reason I can't justify going tht route

JL Audio C5 (only at a discounted price though) - if you want clear, natural response.

If you want exaggerated midbass, need to go with someone else.

 

No 6x9 though. I really really want to fill that hole

 

Focal 6x9 components, $299, toyota specific so they come with the needed 6x9 ring. I have em in our 16 4Runner powered frrom the head unit and they rock. The gray duct seal in the pic covers the 6x9 adaptor, it was added as that stuff adds mass to the plastuc ring.
