What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Install was straightforward and flawless for both the front and rear. Had to mount the winch box above the motor. Not above the drum as in photo.
Can easily access all parts of the winch through the access holes.
Only condudrum is with the front wheel-well liners - cut and remount or tuck up and secure. I went with the tuck job for now. We’ll see how it goes.

 

Thanks. This the Alum version. Worried about the hit on weight and not planning on doing serious rock crawling. Yes, I did have to relocate the solenoid to above the winch motor. Worked out better as it is easier access to the remote port through the access holes.

 

I kept mine incase I wanna put lights down there... But then again that's one more thing to bang up on trails

 

There's a single bolt under each one that allows you to remove those frame extensions. If you decide to put them back, just insert and re-bolt. One less thing to HANG up on the trail.

I would suggest not using the bed rails as a tie down point (for a dirt bike it might be fine). They are not meant to take a vertical load and could easily break with too much force. They're really only meant to take a horizontal load. I purchased the following, which replaces the stock rail at the back and also ties into the side rails.

The setup works fine for these small bikes. But I agree, I wouldn't trust the centre tie down on my 500 lb street bikes. That's what the d-rings on the bed bolts are for.

I know a guy that lost his basically new Ducati 1098 down the highway after hitting a large pothole

 

4" Aluminum channel from the scrap bin at Metal Super Market. The aluminum cuts easy on a chop saw with an old wood blade. Centre piece is 1.5"x1.5"x1/4" aluminum angle. I used 1/4"x3/4" aluminum flat bar (drilled and tapped) for the anchors. This is a very cheap and functional setup for these small bikes but I don't think I'd trust the centre tie-down with a full size street bike.

 

Did the bed rail fail or did the tie-downs get slack and fall off?

 

Bedrail/clamps failed and he didn't put any straps on the rear at all, just two at the front on the stupid clamps/cleats (whatever they're called) that they included with the truck. So it was totally his fault IMO.

 

@trailrazer. May I ask why you located your switch on the lower level? Reason is I’m installing lights also but was thinking of putting the switch next to the existing factory fog light switch. Was it easier or just your preference? Thanks and it looks great.
