They extended the TSB to 2018 TRDs just recently so you should be good!

When I had issues with GM I just kept after them. I’d email them at all hours of the night if I couldn’t sleep, they were so sick of me until I got a new car out of them. But, I also threatened to Lemon Law it too. Yes, I would imagine that enough squeaky wheels will get attention.

If the 2019s howl when they come out they will have to add them to the TSB also.

Does anyone have the updated T-SB bulletin that now includes the 2018s?

Man, I’d rather not go that route. Besides the howl and funky transmission I love the rest of the truck. Hopefully more non TRD guys keep complaining.

Consensus has been its just annoying.

    Sans one or two naysayers.

I was recently in a 2000 suburban with the exact same howl and it had 250k original miles.

Should be nothing more than annoyance, the howling sound is basically harmonics.

My 2018 has this howl too. Wtf?! Called the dealership, they said it was "normal." Definitely sounds like a bad pinion bearing I had in an old RX7 years ago.

3500 posts and you didn't know this is probably one of the three most common complaints with the 3rd gen? Also, the TSB should help reduce the noise pretty drastically so just take it in and have it done.

Good News: The noise is most likely just a resonance issue. No one has heard of the rear diff grenading on anyone. There may have been an isolated incident a while back but it was likley not related.

Somewhat Good News: There is a TSB to address this on some models.

Not So Good News: There is a TSB to address this on some models. Yes, I repeated myself. The TSB does not cover all models and that sucks for cool guys like @trazerr. Finally, the TSB has had mixed results. Most, like myself, have seen a marked improvement. Some, like @nDub, don’t have any improvement. Some have improvement only to have the noise come back. My noise is now slightly more audible than before but that could be partially due to my superfly, superhuman, and supernatural ability to hear this pesky noise no matter how much my wife is trying to destract me.
Hang in there and make your own noise to the dealer, and corporate if needed, in order to get this fixed.

    Best of luck. Peace.

I honestly got used to the noise or learned to deal with it, but it wasnt that bad. I just happened to bring it up at my 15k service and my SA and tech was super cool about it and went for a drive with me and when I pointed it out he said he immediately heard it. So parts are ordered and I'm slated to take it in on Wednesday for the tsb

I heard nothing for the first three days. The last three days it's getting progressively louder. And oddly it's at 28-30mph in addition to ~58mph. I've not read one case here yet that documents the sound at 28-30. They're all in the 50's.

Are your lower control arms plugged? They should be but it might be worth checking. That is a cause for noise at lower speeds.

Now that’s odd. A couple of people have had the same issue, though. I will say that the TSB changed the speed at which my noise is most audible. I just want Toyota to get this right for everyone but it seems like they are stretched thin on “fixes” now with TSBs coming out like crazy. I’ve got to get the tranny TSBs done. My truck is a hot mess when accelerating between 40-60 as well as off the line.

My truck first made the noise at about 300 miles, its more like once you hear it you cannot unhear it. It is loudest around 54 MPH, gonna put some sound deadener in the back of the cab as my next project.
