    Hello Sirs,

Long time lurker, finally signed up a few weeks back, but remained lurking. I own a 2017 DCLB Sport as my daily driver. My entire family owns nothing but Toyotas (we also have a 4Runner in the household, but not mine :( )

I finally decided to post after seeing this.

I was checking on my tires as I'm seeing some unusual wear, but figured since I was already poking around I should do a spot check on my differential. I only have 15K on my truck, have been checking every 5K for leaks. I had the recall service performed right after it was announced and they gave it a clean bill of health. Looks like its not so clean anymore.

There has been a recent thread about this. Seems like many people here that have had this problem fixed had to take their trucks back to the dealer to be fixed again.

If it were me, I would retorque the bolts to 30ft/lbs, clean it up with some brake cleaner, and monitor. If it comes back, you will know it was a gasket issue. No sense in wasting your time at the dealer if it is something that simple.

All the gaskets and retorqued bolts do nothing if the cup edge is not machined flat and properly. Since the diff pumpkins are cast, they need to be machined flat for the gasket to seal tight. Looks like there are defects from casting and machining can only take out so much before the pumpkin is not deep enough.
Could be that defective pumpkins are still put into production and pushed in the cheaper models whereas better ones are used in the top tier models.
Any PRO or Limited with this problem?

Dealership is telling me no leak was found, just a watermark. They'll clean up the area and monitor it.

Water dries. That’s BS man. If it still looks like that again, you have to call them out on that.

That is BS - I had it like yours, but smaller spots and the dealer took care of it. Go back or news dealer and I was not part of the recall.

Okay... So now that you brought this up... I went out and checked mine. Mine “wasn’t part of the recall”...

    Pre 1st fix

Now that you made me check...

I’m really getting to my wits end with Toyota. My fucking truck was gone for over a month to fix something that “wasn’t” part of a recall. Now it’s leakinh again. I’ve checked it multiple times since last summer when it was fixed and obviously it’s back again.

Thank you OP for making me check. I never thought I would have to deal with shit again. Taking it in Monday. Already called the ass crammers at my dealership.

I was without my truck for a month last summer so these dick biscuits could fix the differential on my brand new truck. F them at this point. It’s their problem to fix once again.

I would love for someone to check the bolt torque and see if it is out of spec before they take it in.
