No, I like both. Not against hunting, just against doofs.

I like those frames, but I have no use for them. I need to be able to put my ST up or down according to what I'm hauling. The ST frame will hit those support bars when lowering or raising. To me the ST is a waste, you can't put it up or down with the frame in the way. Might as well have a rigid cap.

Some can. Most will have a cargo rack of some sort to disperse the weight.

Yes but it’s not always 100% effective. If I’m picking between a can of bear spray or a .45 or long gun, I’m taking the firearm all day

Exactly...ban the bears from the tent and it won't be a problem. Banning is very effective...

    So...you agree

Weird stat but I think I know what you mean. And, possibly, I agree.

Good way to really piss off some species of bear and further give firearms a bad wrap, and get land use further restricted.

Just sayin’. Not meaning to be a dick or sound like your dad.

haha.. I had to come across this thread. I went out to my car this morning to find bear prints all around my truck and nose marks all over my tail gate. I then noticed the back flap on my softopper had slices all over it if tooth holes. Not sure what stopped it from slashing into the vinyl window. It might have heard me coming out the door. I had some used gear oil in the back. Only thing I can think of was being attracted by that aweful smell gear oil has. To answer your question.. NO. a softopper will not deter a bear. However will slow it down more than a 3 season tent.

You don’t think spray a bear with spray is gonna piss it off? I’m saying if I’m gonna piss off a bear I’d rather have something that can save my life. Not saying beat spray is totally ineffective. Just saying if it comes down to a last resort I’d rather rely on a firearm than a can of bear spray. Killing a bear in self defense isn’t going to give firearm owners a bad name. Lots of people hunt bears just for their fur or the sport. That’s giving a lot worse rep than you defending your life

Bear spray is very effective and unless you are a serious marksman that can pull a gun on a charging bear while your adrenaline is jacked and then hit your mark, I would def. opt for the spray. Not saying your not. You might be. But the majority of people could very well just piss it off more.

Good follow up. I do agree with the back up and if it’s me or the bear. It’s gotta go. However if I’m backpacking and camping I’m not carrying and bear spray is proven to be a big deterrent even to on a charging mamma brown bear. Not wanting to start anything. Just want people to know that the spray is legit. Even with Moose:)
