Is there a way to test the O2 sensors? I'm just curious as to how you came to the conclusion that the O2 sensors were the issue. I'm totally down to buy 2 sensors if they could bring my 14 mpg up. Hopefully that is a permanent improvement and not just the computer learning the new sensors.

Since my last posting above, my MPG‘s have been fluctuating and started to drop down to a little over 15. Still much better than the 13.5 I had been suffering from for years, so I’m still thinking sticking caliper was part of it. But I’ve also been fighting an occasional P0430 code for Catalytic converter below threshold. In that long fight I ended up getting some good scanners (blue driver mainly) where I checked out (graphed) all my sensors. I had a little trouble interpreting the data, but was able to tell the two downstream sensor 2s ( from each side of the engine, bank 1 and bank 2) were not matching, so I replaced the two $80 sensors (in less than an hour). I should mention I’ve owned this truck for 5ish years and have only had that code for the past year and a half, but have always had terrible gas mileage at around 13-14.

After replacing the two sensors, they seem to match better. So far the code has not returned, and my gas mileage has jumped to 17.5. 2 full tanks of gas since the repair, and have been using the AC a bit. The highest mpgs I’ve ever seen. :amen: Hoping this holds long term, I’m pretty happy.

It’s probably honestly a pretty boring read, but some good information is in there about my O2 sensor “testing” and all that in my thread if interested https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/another-p0430-p0420-thread-bluedriver-results.558791/

I drive about 10-12 miles one way to work everyday and a mountain pass once a week and i'm still getting 20mpg. And going 320 miles on average on a full tank.

I have a 2012 Tacoma TX Pro and I get 11 mpg at best.(and that’s on the highway at 65-75mph) Running 33’s with a leveling kit and that’s all. Used to have a 52” light bar on the roof that was equivalent to having a parachute so I took that off with almost no difference. I have a 18’ bass boat I tow as well and with that I get 10 mpg. I think the word efficient no longer exists. Any ideas what’s up with that?

Not sure why but that’s definitely not normal. I have armor and 34s with stock gears and get 16-18

What is your tire and wheel combo? When did you notice the change? Last time you changed plugs?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
How many miles on the truck? Have you ever switched out the rear diff oil? Clean the MAF sensor?

Truck came stock with 265/75/16’s I believe. Went to a 285/75/16. I bought the truck 3 years ago and think it’s always had bad mpg’s. I didn’t really notice until I started towing long distances and then I would pay close attention to how far I got on a tank. Never changed the plugs actually...hmm

Truck has about 162,000 now. The rear diff and MAF sensor have been untouched since I bought it 3 years back. Not sure what the previous owner could have done.

Assuming you have V6, plugs are supposed to be changed every 30k miles according to the manual.

My 97 F250HD gets 7-8 mpg. I would jump with joy if it gave me 11-12.

Then again I only use it to haul gravel and Belgian block (load weighed in at ~3500 pounds).

I’ve put about 35k on my truck since I got it. Assuming the guy before me had them changed but who knows...

Lifted 33s here - if I’m flooring it to the convenient store a couple of streets over, I can see getting 11-12mpg

if I’m going to a buddy’s house going 50mph in 6th the whole way, I’m gonna be at 20-24mpg.

all depends on how you drive it
