dealership did my update. They declined at first, and I ended up talking to the lead tech. I was very polite about it and admitted the tsb wording was very poor, and that the tsb clearly spoke to the software on the manual transmission too.

He looked a little puzzled and doubtful, but not surprised to see that. I let him know that if it gets on techstream an ecu update will show as available. He said he would look and update it if I am right, and show me “if” I am wrong. He came back ten minutes later and said I was right and he was running the update.

I think the secret is it to be polite and point out the poor wording, but that the gsb itself clearly has the manual software.

After drive update - some good improvements, but less promising than My expectations. Its still a smaller v6. It feels more responsive mostly. Still doesnt like sub 1800rpm

    Here's a fun one. I opened 33-18.cuw in Notepad:

    Capture.jpg

All kinds of good info there, along with why it is working on 04B10 and 04B11 ECUs.

So, that's how many errors in the TSB?

    Awesome!

What's not so awesome is that it's been "in the wild" since 25 June!!!!

    Anyway, all good now.

    Hahaha! Grrrrr!

That is probably when it was approved by the ECU group.

If you give it a month for a release cycle including internal testing and cert, that brings it to late July which coincides with the time that the AT folks had it.

    Flash successful!

I used techstream 12.10, worked fine.

It is impossible to flash the wrong file as stated previously.

I used a tactrix. I did have to get the drivers from their website.

The truck drives like a different vehicle. I am extremely happy!:burnrubber:

Means the "documentation" dept at Toyota totally fucked up the only job they has...accuracy. it's in that file that this covers MT also. It's basically a manifest of the payload of the TSB Update. Except the official Toyota documentation of this TSB does not reflect the manifest, or the payload.

    Well, just flashed TSB...

    Truck still starts!!!

    And I didn't "brick" it...

Drive it around the block and it "seemed" a bit more responsive, but it could all be my imagination...

    Will test further tomorrow...

Mainly that the TSB files address all MTs, as we found out, but the TSB only list 04B12 for the 2017s.

Were they receptive? Did they have anything to say? I will be calling tomorrow when I get the chance. I work on the water and am rarely in cell range during the day.

They told me "We are recording your concern and the concerns of others to identify any trends with this issue." Then he sent the case to the service manager at the dealership I had the update done at. That was pretty much it.

I'll be seeing how my dealership accepts or denies this tsb today.. considering they will not turn chime off, tech said they didn't want the liability, I am not too confident.

I'm trying to justify just buying the Tactrix cable. What else can I do with it and techstream besides 04b13 update, orange virus updates? Can I screw with seatbelt or other vehicle settings once set up?

Yes. You get the full slate of setting changes from Carista and more.

I think (could be wrong) that you can even shut off the door open / key in chime in TS? I will be looking for that.

You will have access to all the personalization options that you would normally have to go to the dealer to get done, including the seatbelt chime... I know you can data log using TS and tactrix, you can do your own Heath checks and ecu flashes if other ecu tsb’s come out, and you can probably read and clear codes.

    uhhhh....dog fur?
got my annual check up scheduled, will ask them about this, and just found a recall on my blower motor too (note below)......lots of things all at once.......

    recall:
Special Service Campaign J0N - Remedy Notice Certain 2016 - 2017 Model Year Tacoma HVAC Blower Motor
    Description

There is a possibility that the blower motor fan hub in the involved vehicles was produced with improper dimensions. A blower motor fan hub with improper dimensions may develop a crack over time. If a vehicle is continuously operated with this condition, the damage may worsen, leading to an abnormal noise and eventually an inoperable blower motor fan.

    Remedy

Toyota will send an owner notification by first class mail starting in early September 2018, advising owners to make an appointment with their authorized Toyota dealer to have the blower motor and fan assembly replaced at NO CHARGE.
